What happens if you can't have a penicillin shot for syphilis?

What happens if you can't have a penicillin shot for syphilis?

Doxycycline: Doxycycline for 2-4 weeks is recommended if penicillin cannot be given, or sometimes ceftriaxone. However, penicillin is by far the best drug. If you had a severe penicillin allergy in the past, then probably penicillin should be avoided. Otherwise, it still might be the best choice for you. Discuss it with your doctor or, even better, an infectious diseases or STD specialist. ...Read more

Can penicillin affect kidney function?

Can penicillin affect kidney function?

Yes but rare: Penicillin is mostly metabolized/breakdown by the liver and the by-product is then excreted to the outside world via the kidneys in the urine. Typically this does not affect kidney functions, but in the rare cases when penicillin causes interstitial nephritis, renal function is affected. So, if you are not taking any else and now has kidney trouble with penicillin, get it checked. Good luck. ...Read more

Will cenfindir or penicillin treat a uti/ kidney infection ? In pain all week and the more in depth research I do I am 100% positive

Yes: Not as common as quinolones (eg cipro) or sulfa drugs (trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole), the antibiotics you mentioned can be used to treat uti's, depending on how common it is to find bacteria that is sensitive to- your prescribing doctor should have an idea regarding this issue. ...Read more

Can a 90 year old get azactam (aztreonam) injection of 50ml every 12 hours if allergic to penicillin and poor renal function?

Can a 90 year old get azactam (aztreonam) injection of 50ml every 12 hours if allergic to penicillin and poor renal function?

Probably OK: Although aztreonam (Azactam®) is chemically related to penicillin, almost no penicillin allergic patients react to it. (In fact, most people with penicllin allergies can receive penicillin itself without having another reaction.) The dose should be reduced in people with poor renal function. Probably the doctors are on top of these issues, but for sure you should ask to be certain. ...Read more

I've taken penicillin since the 9th Er watched me 35 min to make sure didn't have reaction could I have a reaction now t penicillin worried ?

If you haven't had: a reaction to that course of penicillin, you're unlikely to get one now. You could still get an allergic reaction next time you take it. Reactions can vary from skin rash to hives and even anaphylactic shock. If you had a suspected allergic reaction in the past, it's best to avoid antibiotics in the penicillin family unless no substitutes are available, which is rarely the case. Dr. Anne ...Read more

See answer: Cilicaine pcn is generally used for treatment of strept or staph upper respiratory, throat, and sinus type infections and is not usually effective for the bacteria that cause utis.
