How does my doctor find out if I have fractured my thumb or not?

Based upon your history nd exam findings, appropriate x-rays will be requested to determine whether or not you have a fracture. ...Read more

It seems that many believe that a "fracture" is a lesser injury or an incomplete break in the bone, but this is not correct. Fractures may be displaced or ...Read more

I fractured the top of my thumb what can a doctor do to help?

Probably Nothing: Most fractures of the tips of the fingers do not require any specific treatment other than a splint for comfort for a few weeks. I would see a hand surgeon and get a xray because there are some fractures that require more involved treatment. ...Read more

About 3/4 months ago I was taken to A&E with a suspected scaphoid fracture I was seen by 2 doctors and was put in a thumb spica (not a cast) for 10 days because they suspected the scaphoid was broken. I later had another appointment for an X-ray to decid

Varies: Scaphoid fractures are often difficult to fully assess with X-ray. Often a ct scan or MRI is used if someone has persistent pain and X-rays look ok. Sometimes rather than doing a lot of initial studies, we will treat a patient in a splint if they have an exam and X-rays could be consistent with a scaphoid fracture, but then dc their splint if their exam and X-ray normalize. ...Read more

Ligaments: As long as the finger is moving without pain and with close to full range of motion, the snapping you are hearing is likely from the ligaments rather than the bone, but be sure your orthopedist is aware of it. ...Read more

I have a "rough fracture" to the bone at the tip of my thumb. My doctor recommended a splint but isn't helping. It's worsened. Can it be casted?

TUFT fracture(guess): Not "rough" fracture, the tuft is the very tip of the distal phalanx, you have the similat structure at the tip of your thumb and all fingers ( and toes). Ask for a different splint. Often these hurt for a few weeks, are sensative to touch but heal well in 6-8 weeks. After the first few weeks splinting may not be needed and often the splint can be off for sedentary activity-but ask ur doctor! ...Read more

TOS: Person age/sex unkown had shoulder trauma with residual pain of Superior trapeizus region & negative imaging study.
