How Does Losartan Lower Blood Pressure
Will losartan h 50mg and metoprolol 5mg a better choice to lower moms blood pressure.she is 76yrs & takes telma40mg once and cilicar5 mg twice now.
BP Rx: Asks if one BP Rx is better than other for 76 Mom. ANS: neither you list is a diuretic and the SHEP study (in elderly) demonstrated that chlorthalidone is all that is needed in most. So have her ask why she is not on this to start with. She may not need anything else. Nothing is better in the elderly. ...Read more

Not directly: There are always exceptions to any case, but a "paradoxical" rise in blood pressure is difficult to explain with Losartan as the culprit. With that said, everyone reacts differently to medicines. Chances are; however, that the Losartan was inneffective, something else was working against the Losartan, or the Losartan had not yet taken effect by the time of blood pressure measurement. See PCP. ...Read more
How to control my blood pressure I am taking losartan 25 mg and my pressure is still high. I checked about a week ago and pressure was 162/109?
Hypertension: The dose might not be enough so it has to be adjusted. There is no one blood pressure medication for every person. The best medication is one that controls blood pressure without side effect.if it controls blood pressure but too much side effect it is not for you. If you are able to take it but does not lower your blood pressure, that is not the one for you. See your PCP so he can adjust your med. ...Read more
Cozaar (losartan) and BP: Cozaar (losartan) (C) is a very effective drug to lower blood pressure, if given in sufficient doses. That has very few adverse effects. If your blood pressure is controlled at 25 mg/day of C, that is fine. I prefer to start and keep my patients on 50 mg twice a day. Speak to your physician about how well controlled your BP is and if it is, that dose is fine for you. Good luck. ...Read more
It's been 24 hours since taking my last blood pressure med. (Losartan 100mg) my Bp is 127/65. Should I take my Bp again or will the 65 get too low?
Hypertension: The reported BP is fine, a diastolic of 65 is admirable. If you stop taking scheduled meds prescribed for documented diagnosed hypertension then the BP will rise up though perhaps not right away;so do take the med as prescribed. Losartan sometimes works better taken divided in to 2 doses 12 hours apart eg 50mg every 12 hours. Good luck. ...Read more

Good Idea: You may have borderline Hypertension and it is a good idea to get it checked and treated,You may not need drugs at this stage and only life style changes may be all what you need at this stage.Dasg diet, weight loss if over weight, exercise regularly, quit smoking if you smoke, good sleep and stress reduction may help to bring BP to normal level. And if that fails then consider meds to control BP ...Read more
I'm worried because I took my Hydrochlorothiazide/losartan 25/100 at about 6 pm yesterday and mistakenly took it again just now at 5 am. It's the only medication I take. I'm at work and have no way to measure my blood pressure. I don't have any other medi
HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) may make: You tired or light-headed from low blood pressure. I would make sure to drink plenty of water, double the normal amount, and eat some salty foods right now until you can get your blood pressure checked. The Losartan is what will most likely drive your blood pressure down. Make sure you do not take that again for another 24 hours. ...Read more

Why bother with ARBs: They're both expensive. Can you not take an ace-inhibitor? They're better proven in evidence based studies, and Lisinopril is $4/month at walmart and a bunch of other places. That said, they're pretty comparable as BP meds. ...Read more

No,why would you?: Cozaar (losartan) is an arb class of blood pressure lowering medication, appropriate for those w/high blood pressure or hypertension. Midodrine is an Alpha receptor agonist used to treat patients w/orthostatic hypotension, whose blood pressure falls when they change positions. I can't imagine too many patients w/htn who are orthostatic w/treatment where you'd add another med rather than give fluids, etc. ...Read more

Is 25mg losartan(cozaar) a low dose? My blood pressure ranges 150-130/90-100 and doctor put me on low dose. Worried about BP going too low.
Take the Losartan: It sounds like you need to take the Losartan. It is a good drug to start with for high blood pressure. At that dose and at your age, it is highly unlikely that your blood pressure will go too low. I would recommend rechecking your blood pressure with your doctor about 6 weeks after starting the Losartan and call if symptoms of lightheadedness occur. You should be fine. ...Read more
