How Does A Doctor Test For Ovarian Cysts
A cyst is a structure or mass that consists of a cellular lined sac. It is typically filled with fluid but may be filled with solid material. It can be congenital, traumatic, or acquired. They may develop nearly anywhere in the body and usually require complete excision for eradication or they are likely to recur. Fluid filled sacs that are not cellular lined ...Read more
Hi , I am 33 years old.I have ovarian cyst 5 cm. My doctor said it is hemorrhagic cyst. What kida test can tell the cyst is benign? Thanks.
Repeat ultrasound: Ultrasound examination usually defines cyst of ovary as fluid filled. Sometimes echogencity of lining is suggestive of hemorrhage. Repeat ultrasound exam in few weeks with disappearance of cyst is definite evidence of benign lesion. If solid components are associated with the cyst tumor can be suspected. Then either other imaging such as mr or surgical biopsy might be performed. ...Read more
Last week,Doctor said I may have an ovarian cyst that ruptured (getting test next week) but my cycle started & it hurts way more than usual. Normal?
Not usual: Ovarian cysts form every month in healthy young women. Normal ovaries may be filled with small cysts (known as functional cysts). Once in a while, a cyst will become large and may cause pain due to pressure on surrounding tissues. Ovarian cysts generally resolve on their own in 3-4 weeks, but an enlarged cyst can rupture causing significant pain. Try Naprosyn 500 mg up to 3x/day. ...Read more

Why would my doctor order me to have CEA, LDH, AFP,CA125, tests done for my 7cm multi loculated ovarian cyst. They couldn't see either ovary on t/scan?
Tumor markers: An ultrasound is a better diagnostic tool in assessing ovarian cysts. If they saw a cyst, the next step is to see if there are any abnormal biological markers that can suggest presence of malignancy. If abnormal, this would allow you to be referred to a gynecology-oncologist for further treatment ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I have ovarian cyst & pregnancy symptoms, but got a positive pregnancy test at the doctor. I read an ovarian cyst can mimic pregnancy. Is this true?
As a doctor, do you think I'm pregnant if I got a positive test but I have a 5 CM ovarian cyst, & no gestational sac on ultrasound??
Yes: the pregnancy test detects human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), which is produced by the trophoblast, which later becomes the placenta. An ovarian cyst will not produce HCG. If you are 3 to 5 weeks, the gestational sac is easily missed. Your OB will address the possiblility of a tubal pregnancy, and can confirm that you are not having a miscarriage by documenting a rising HCG level or repeat US. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Negative preg. Test but pelvic pain, ovarian cyst on right. Pressure. Per doctor not an emergency. Frequent urination. Doctor next week. 2nd opinion?
Pelvic pain: The pain that you are experiencing could be from the cyst. If the pain is not disabling it is prudent to observe it and repeat the ultrasound in a few weeks especially if it is done after a period. Frequent urination could be a sign of a UTI or an overactive bladder which could also cause pelvic pain. You need to follow up with your doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Am a studying doctor, went for follow up of my ovarian cyst saw a sac in uterus but am 3days due for period, negative test on 28day could i be pregnant?
Trust the test: Home pregnancy tests are very accurate. They are the same tests used in a doctor's office. They can detect a pregnancy 7-10 days after conception. The best time to take one is when you miss your period. If you doubt the result you can repeat it in 1-2 days. If you were pregnant the hormone level would rise enough for detection. ...Read more
