Speak to your doc: Effexor (venlafaxine) is not a simple drug. In some cases it might be detrimental to your health to stop it abruptly. Your physician will take into consideration the reason you were prescribed this medication and decide if you need continuation of Effexor (venlafaxine). If he/she decides that it is OK to discontinue Effexor (venlafaxine) then a planned reduction in the dose over one or two weeks would be warranted. ...Read more

Off-label: This would be an off-label use of an antidepressant. Psychiatrists sometimes do use medications in off-label ways, depending on circumstances. Still, antidepressants used only on weekends would not likely help much, since they usually require consistent dosing for 4-6 weeks to show effect. ...Read more

What to do if I have read the side affects of anti anxiety pills and I do not want to take them anymore is it bad if just take a sleeping pills instead?

Not a good idea: the medicine works because of the consistent use of it in your bloodstream, thats how it keeps you calm. Everyone freaks out over side effects without giving the medicine a try. you might have none. I have taken medicine post surgery and had little to no side effects. Rethink this. Ask your doctor for any more questions. ...Read more

Do i need to wean off Zoloft when switching to Lexapro (escitalopram) or can I just go straight to the Lexapro (escitalopram) without still taking zoloft. Doc said to do that?

Start Lexapro (escitalopram): While still on the zoloft . I usually have someone start on a small dose of the Lexapro (escitalopram) and increase it gradually while at the same time, taper down even more slowly on the zoloft. Each new antidepressant essentially has to start over again and needs time to work. Therefore you don't want to go off the zoloft too quickly, you may find out it had been doing much more for you than you had thought. ...Read more
