How Do You Know When Diarrhea Is Over
Loose stools is a symptom in which a person's stool (poop) does not hold its shape after it goes into the toilet. Instead of remaining a shaped piece of poop, the poop spreads out in the toilet bowl water. Very loose stool is called diarrhea. Loose stool can be caused by infections, certain foods or drinks, ...Read more
Keep a log: One way would be to keep a record of dates and times of the events. This may also help with identifying any patterns, especially if certain foods are being eaten or certain stressors encountered frequently when the bouts are especially bad. By keeping the record you have an accurate log of events and do not have to try to remember which can sometimes be difficult if there are many.
I have been having stomach issues with vomiting, diarrhea, and foul smelling burps. Pains when I eat and bad bloating. Can you help? No one knows.
My GI dr prescribed me Lomotil for diarrhea. I take norco 10-325 for knee pain. He knows I take norco. Why would he give another opiate. Will it help.
OTC anti diarrhea: Lamotil, is an over the counter med for diarrhea and does NOT enter the central nervous system and does not affect pain but does affect the large intestine to slow it down and help loose stools. Norco an opioid has the same effect on the large intestine and it does cross into the CNS causing pain relief. Technically both meds are in the same family but function differently.
What's the cause?: "plugging up" diarrhea will not cure an infection, fix an inflammatory process, improve an ischemic gut, or correct a functional issue. Medical evaluation is recommended appropriate to the duration of your symptoms, associations (bleeding, weight loss, pain, vomiting), as well as your other medical co-morbidities. Call your doctor please and get checked.See 1 more doctor answer
BRAT for acute runs: Start with bananas, rice (white), applesauce (has pectin), tea and toast (white)- easily absorbed. Fluids, not just water. Advance and add protein: miso soup goes down easy; add baked, boiled chicken, fish, potato, plain pasta; advance as tolerated. Add in cooked veggies (save salad and citrus for later). Chronic? See md probiotics, eg. S boulardii (florastor) can be helpful. Not better see doc.
Gentle on GI track: If you have diarrhea drink water to hydrate yourself. You can also have clear soups / broths, unsweetened juices or oral rehydration solutions. You want to be gentle with your diet so that your GI track can recover. Stay away from dairy, leafy vegetables & most fruits initially. Caffeine & alcohol should be avoided as well as any dark carbonated beverages. Although it may seem bland to you, stay >.
Depends on cause: Irritable bowel syndrome, condition involving recurrent abdominal pain and diarrhea or constipation, often associated with stress, depression, anxiety, or previous intestinal infection (diet and meds).Inflammatory bowel disease, crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, steroids and specific medications) viral gastroenteritis, fluids support and sometimes meds. Bacterial infection, antibiotic therapy.
"Cure" for diarrhea: First define the problem (do you have soft or frequent stool?), circumstances under which diarrhea developed (malabsorption, pancreatic maldigestion, food intolerances, stressful times, exposure to ill individuals, food poisoning, ischemic gut, inflammatory colitis, etc.), severity (stool volume, dehydration, blood, night-time awakening, weight loss), ; duration. The "cure" depends on diagnosis.
We do not know: We do not know why you have diarrhea without getting a detailed history and physical examination diarrhea can be cause by 1viral, bacterial, protozoan infections of GI tract 2food poisonong 3lactose intolerance 4inflammatory bowel diaease 5antibiotics side effect and other drugs 6malabsorption syndrome so get it checked by your doctor to find the cause and appropriate treatment.
More data needed: "Atypical" does not mean anything with "diarrhea". Sloppy wording. Is it infection or inflammatory? Stool cultures and C Difficile tests rule out the former. Colonoscopy helps with the latter. In addition there are malabsorption syndromes or certain cancers that can cause diarrhea - gastroenterologist can help get to the bottom of this.See 1 more doctor answer
