Stress (Definition)

Stress affects most people in some way. Acute (sudden, short-term) stress leads to rapid changes throughout the body. Almost all body systems (the heart and blood vessels, immune system, lungs, digestive system, sensory organs, and brain) gear up to meet perceived danger. These stress responses could prove beneficial in a critical, life-or-death situation. Over time, however, repeated stressful situations put a strain on the body that may contribute to physical and psychological problems. Chronic (long-term) stress can have real health consequences and should be addressed like any other health concern. Fortunately, research is showing that lifestyle changes and stress-reduction techniques can help people learn ...Read more

How do you know if you have cancer that is caused by stress and depression?

How do you know if you have cancer that is caused by stress and depression?

Unknown if causative: It has not been scientifically proven that stress or depression causes cancer. Some viruses cause cancers so it's possible that stress alters the way a body fights off or deals with viruses and could make one more susceptible to developing cancers. Stress can alter functions of the immune system, perhaps making it harder for the immune system to detect & destroy mutant cells before they reproduce. ...Read more

What is the evidence that supports chronic and severe depression and stress increasing ones risk of developing cancer?

The risk is low.: As i discuss in my book, "a cancer prevention guide for the human race, " breast cancer risk may be slightly increased with chronic depression, but the evidence for this is rather weak (and evidence that chronic depression and stress causes other cancers is even weaker). People who engage in activities known to increase cancer risk, because they're stressed, can increase their cancer risk, though. ...Read more

Depression stress my brother died 8 years ago he was 16 i was 15 then my father was diagnosed with cancer twice?

I would recommend: You see you doctor to rule out any physical cause of depression. I would also recommend that you see a psychiatrist for medication for what may be a mixture of posttraumatic stress disorder and depression. Psychotherapy can be determined by the psychiatrist. Prolonged grief especially at the age that you were at when these events happened often has the tendency to act more like ptsd chemically and in response to medication. Best wishes and sorry to hear about the tragedies in your life. ...Read more

Talk Much/Talk Often: When events typically thought 2 bring joy occur alongside events that typically bring sorrow, we can feel desperately overwhelmed & disoriented.
