hereditary (i.e., the condition may run in families)
lack of sleep or fatigue.
interrupted sleep or inefficient sleep (including from disorders like sleep apnea)

Why am I sleepwalking? I never did it at all as a child or teen. In the past 2 years it's happened maybe once every 6 months, but twice this week.

Sleepwalking: You may have a medical condition such as GERD, restless legs or other condition medication can be a cause as well. Your anxiety can also be a cause. Make sure you cant hurt yourself at night. Before bedtime, cut out auditory and visual stimuli. Finally, see your doctor to rule out medical problems and a psychotherapist to help you with your anxiety. Read more

Ice, elevate: Walking on a sprained ankle probably won't cause any significant problems, unless the ankle is severely sprained and grossly unstable. You may have some increased swelling, for which ice and elevation will probably help. I assume you have an ankle brace for your sprain - consider wearing it at night if the sleepwalking is a recurrent problem. Read more

Depends on cause: [1] overall: get enough sleep. De-stress: relax, meditate. Unplug before bedtime. [2] avoid provoking drugs: sleepy antihistamines like benadryl, (diphenhydramine) tricyclics antidepressants, short acting sedatives like triazolam, zolpidem. [3] treat provoking conditions: gerd, restless leg syndrome, obstructive sleep apnea, seizures. Good luck! Read more
