Normal washing: Trich can be spread penis 2 vagina, vagina 2 vagina, vagina 2 penis, also through hands, mouth & anus. Not spread (or very rarely) through clothing/bedding. Normal wash should be fine. May be spread by shared sex toys so wash those between partners. Common in women in their 40s/50s, not the same demographic as for chlamydia, gonorrhea. Very common. 70% have no symptoms. Curable with medication.

I have trichomoniasis, I am being treated but will washing my clothes be enough to not get reinfected?

I have trichomoniasis, I am being treated but will washing my clothes be enough to not get reinfected?

Yes: Trichomonas is transmitted from one warm place to another sexually and the protozoan organism doesn't survive well on clothing unless moist. Re-infection is more likely when you have intercourse again with an untreated partner.

What could have caused bruising to a newborns tummy. Could it be clothing or bedding?

What could have caused bruising to a newborns tummy. Could it be clothing or bedding?

Not likely: Depending on the age of a newborn, bruising on his tummy might still be from pressure at delivery. Many babies have darker spots on the lower back, butt, or trunk, called mongolian spots. Those spots are birthmarks, not bruises. The pediatrician can check to see if there is a problem. If tummy bruising is new and started after the baby got home, there could be a serious problem in the blood.

How long does the mersa virus last on counters, clothing, carpet, etc and is there anything that will kill it?

How long does the mersa virus last on counters, clothing, carpet, etc and is there anything that will kill it?

MRSA Bacteria: Viruses don't respond to antibiotics. Mrsa is a bacteria that can be treated with specific antibiotics. Depending on several factors including humidity, physical traffic on the counter (generally called a fomite), and others factors, MRSA can stay for hours to days. Bleach, detergents, ultraviolet light, and many other reagents can kill mrsa, but are not necessarily safe for humans to consume.

Dry Skin: Generalized itching without primary skin rash most commonly caused by dry skin. Most severe during the winter months and in older people, characterized by itching in areas of dry, scaly skin. Lab work can check if there is an underlying cause: CBC/diff, liver/renal function tests, and thyroid workup. Treat with daily moisturzation and better skin hygiene. Non-sedating antihistamines for itch.

Are there special types of bedding and mattresses to prevent bedsores?

Are there special types of bedding and mattresses to prevent bedsores?

Yes: The most simple & economic mattress is the egg crate mattress of foam which shows a surface similar to the containers of the eggs we get at the supermarket this prevents parts of the surface to be in direct contact of the skin. There is a sophisticated expensive bed called clinitron (r) than some hospitals use for the deeper ulcers and sickest patients. I mention before paddings & pillows.

Can protective clothing prevent melioidosis?

Can protective clothing prevent melioidosis?

Melioidosis-bad news: Melioidosis is an infectious disease caused by a Gram-negative bacterium, Burkholderia pseudomallei. It's found in soil in certain areas like Vietnam, where many American GIs were exposed. The bacteria can enter the body through a break in the skin, inhalation (dust from a chopper for example), or swallowed - as in contaminated food/water. Protective clothing including shoes! Could therefore help.

Can rubbing alcohol kill sperm easily? Especially when the alcohol is applied on the clothing where sperm is

Can rubbing alcohol kill sperm easily? Especially when the alcohol is applied on the clothing where sperm is

Yes, but: Alcohol will kill sperm as it dries, but sperm on clothing isn't going to get you pregnant. It has to be inside your body. Why are you having unprotected sex? It's an excellent way to have an unwanted pregnancy or hiv/std infection -- or both. If you're old enough to have sex, you're old enough to act responsibly.

I got scabies and I put on the elamite on washed all bedding and clothes and sprayed down bed and furniture so why is it that I still itch really bad?

I got scabies and I put on the elamite on washed all bedding and clothes and sprayed down bed and furniture so why is it that I still itch really bad?

Itch lasts: Even though you have treated yourself and the environment, your body still has to get rid of the dead mites that are left under your skin after treatment. This can take weeks to months to settle down the inflammatory reaction that takes place under the skin when you are infected with scabies. Try an oral antihistamine for the itching and oatmeal baths.

Other than a pacifier, sleeping on back, a fan, and not over clothing, what can I do to prevent sids? I constantly worry.

Other than a pacifier, sleeping on back, a fan, and not over clothing, what can I do to prevent sids? I constantly worry.

Don't worry: Easy to say...Difficult to do. If you are following the recommendations of "back to sleep" and the other measures you mention, all is well. Worrying just makes you a wreck. If there is no family history of sids and you don't smoke, odds are very very small sids will occur. I would have a discussion with you in the office over why you worry so we can help ally your anxiety.

Roommate washed dieselsoaked clothes couple weeks ago. Just did 2 loads (clothes &bedding) before realizing the smell. How toxic are the fumes?

No health risk: Repeated or continue expousre to diesel fumes could cause health problems after a few months or year, but a brief exposure like this won't do anything bad. Just open the windows, let the place air out, and don't worry about it.

How to prevent bed bugs from getting on my things from guest clothing?

How to prevent bed bugs from getting on my things from guest clothing?

Bad bed bugs.: Cimex lectularius or the bed bug is a parasite that is nocturnal. It can be transported on your clothing, luggage, second hand furniture etc. You can even get it using public transportation. It can go up to a year without feeding, so that allows it to just sit and wait until it catches a ride on something or someone. It is an insidious problem. It hides in crevices during the day. At night it is.

Scabies. We have all applied Perm. When do I wash bedding/clothes? Before or after I apply the cream? After I wake up and before I wash it off?

Scabies. We have all applied Perm. When do I wash bedding/clothes? Before or after I apply the cream? After I wake up and before I wash it off?

Immediately...: Wash all your clothes and bedding immediately. Try to apply the cream during a period where you don't come in contact with your bedding while the medication starts working. If by next week after treatment you are still having symptoms then you will have to wash everything on hot water all over again. Wash your clothes after removing the cream.
