Is there a way to tell if a root canal is done without x ray?

Is there a way to tell if a root canal is done without x ray?

Not if crown present: If there is a crown on the tooth then probably not possible to tell unless the root canal was done through the crown after the crown was placed. Your best bet if you really have to avoid an x-ray is to look at your dental records. Whoever did the crown most likely made a notation if a root canal has been done. ...Read more

My daughter needs braces and the Orthodontic will not perform without a Ceph x-ray. Is it absolutely necessary to have it done?

My daughter needs braces and the Orthodontic will not perform without a Ceph x-ray. Is it absolutely necessary to have it done?

Yes: Your orthodontist will learn so much (s)he needs to know from taking it that is very worthwhile. I wonder why you are against taking it? There is no danger to your child. If she goes to the beach for an hour, she will get about the same amount of radiation from the sunshine as she gets from a Ceph. X-ray. It's very safe. ...Read more

How can you tell if you have a cavity on a x ray, and can dental x rays cause shadows on a tooth, if it is not done right?

How can you tell if you have a cavity on a x ray, and can dental x rays cause shadows on a tooth, if it is not done right?

Looks dark: Viewing dental x-rays, we look for darkness on film meaning less dense tooth. In between teeth, we look for a break in the enamel shell. We also look for other abnormalities on these films including bone loss, radiolucencies in jaw bone, impacted teeth, etc. It would be difficult to alter specific locations on films. The film would be too dark or light. So, no. ...Read more

Are cephalogram xrays always necessary for orthodontic treatment or will panoramic xray suffice? What is radiation dosage of each type of xray?

Are cephalogram xrays always necessary for orthodontic treatment or will panoramic xray suffice? What is radiation dosage of each type of xray?

Cephalometric Xray: The standard of care for orthodontic treatment as defined by the ADA/AAO requires a cephalometric X-ray as part of the beginning orthodontic records. Without this Xray/tracing, it is impossible to properly determine the skeletal vs dental component of the malocclusion. Many of these xrays are digital, which means much less exposure than old traditional xrays with film. ...Read more

All Different.: Surprisingly few, but when they do, it is based on several parameters. The location of the fracture as well as the ability to bring the broken pieces back into satisfactory alignment are important. The age and general health, as well as the foot health of the patient must be considered. The ability of the patient to comply with what ever choice of treatment must also be entertained. ...Read more

What X-ray is the best to determine any neck or spine problems?

What X-ray is the best to determine any neck or spine problems?

It depends of course: Simplest view is lateral neck x-ray which actually shows a lot of information. For more in-depth evaluation, oblique views show foramina where nerve roots exit. Flexion extension views show instability. For the most amount of information without radiation, a cervical MRI shows the most, but is very expensive and should be reserved for difficult cases. ...Read more

Bone age study: After puberty, most men and women do not experience much increase in height. The best way to maximize your height is through balanced nutrition, good posture and exercises that will strengthen your back and core muscles to support your spine. Bone age studies can be performed to determine if your growth plates are fused (growth stops after this occurs) but results are not immediately available. ...Read more

How do I determine (without an X-ray machine) if I have broken or dislocated the small toe on my right foot?

How do I determine (without an X-ray machine) if I have broken or dislocated the small toe on my right foot?

It can be difficult: Without an x-ray, you may not be able to diagnose a fracture. Some fractures are obvious without an x-ray but some are not. Dislocations often times are easier to diagnose without an x-ray but you won't necessarily be able to diagnose a toe dislocation without an x-ray. In short, if you are concerned about the possibility of a toe fracture or dislocation, see an orthopaedic doctor and get x-rays. ...Read more

If one of my rib is out of alignment can it been seen on a X-ray or MRI with contrast? Can a spine surgeon determine this type of injury? Back pain!

Don't understand: I'm not sure what it means for a rib to be out of alignment. X-rays can pick up some rib fractures, but if they are small or subtle it can be hard. Contrast on an MRI is completely unnecessary for a rib fracture, and a ct would likely be better for rib fractures anyways. And keep in mind that most rib fractures require no treatment. ...Read more

32 male. C & l X-ray = scoliosis but brain & c spine MRI normal. B12 @ 1100. Suffering from lhermitte's sign. What other tests can determine cause?

Anatomy: If you do indeed have a true lhermitte's phenomenon, it represents spinal cord irritation over the posterior column, and a cause is always present, but sometimes obscure. Do you have vertebral body instability in neck, (perhaps flexion/extension films), is there diabetes (hgb-a1c), might you have an arteritis (ana profile)? Sometimes, spinal fluid analysis is answer (ms profile). ...Read more
