My doc prescribed me Ketoconazole 2% shampoo for folliculitis & sores on genital area, do I still use regular soap afterwards? How do I use it?
See a dermatologist: If you use ketoconazole shampoo all over, you do not need another cleanser. Your polypharmacy suggests that your DR is using a "shotgun" approach to therapy and may not feel confident of her diagnoses. Ketoconazole shampoo is safe, cheap, easy to use. Might as well use it in shower every day. ...Read more
Doctor said I have folliculitis. I say genital herpes. I'm paranoid and they never bother testing me and gave me cream to put don't know what to do.?
Do a herpes culture: Culture of the lesions, if the culture is +, it means herpes, if it is negative, it does not necessarily mean you do not have herpes, but, then you can do blood herpes antibodies for type 1 and type 2, if the antibodies are + and you have never had a cold sore then most likely the lesions are herpes, go for a second opinion to a different doctor if you are worried. ...Read more

Yes: You can also spread type 2 (genital herpes) to the mouth - even without active sores. In either case, the gential lesions are more painful than the oral lesions which tend to be more annoying. Both are treatable but not curable. Your dentist or md can give meds to prevent, control or lesson the discomfort depending on where the lesions are. Avoiding stress seems to lessen the frequency of outbreak. ...Read more
If someone had herpes 1 in their genital area, how would the doctors be able to tell with no outbreak?
What to do if I am starting to get weird bumps all around my genital area could this be herpes or warts?
Doubt herpes, see MD: Herpes lesions: red bump to blister to open sore to scab to healing over 1-2 weeks; bumps with no change after 1-2 days cannot be herpes. Genital warts can last weeks or months with no change in appearance. If rapidly appearing, maybe molluscum contagiosum, but MC rare beyond age 25. If red and inflamed in the pubic area, maybe folliculitis, especially if you shave the area. Stop guessing, see MD. ...Read more
No symptoms associated with Herpes. I developed 7 bumps in my genital area after oral relations. Partner of 5yrs, no signs of sores. Only partner. HELP?
Ony superficially: Genital herpes is a highly contagious sexually transmitted disease (std) caused by the virus herpes simplex type 2 (hsv2). It's related to the virus that causes cold sores or fever blisters in your mouth: hsv1. Canker sores are small ulcers on your tongue or the lining of your cheeks that are probably autoimmune in origin. We don't think cankers are of viral origin because they're not contagious. ...Read more
Can cold sores be spread to the genital area? Is it possible for someone with cold sores to cause genital herpes in another person?
Yes, it is possible.
Cold sores or fever blisters are caused by herpes simplex virus type 1 (hsv-1) and are extremely common. Most people become infected as an infant or small child when kissed or by sharing eating utensils with an adult who has the virus. 20% of the cases of genital herpes are also caused by hsv-1 thought to be infections from oral-genital contact. The virus is most contagious when someone has a cold sore, but can still be passed along by someone who does not. Many people do not even know that they are infected because the virus can "hide out" in the nerve cells for very long periods of time - for some people it hides out forever and they never get a cold sore. For others, the virus can "wake up" at any time and that's when a cold sore happens. No one knows exactly what causes a cold sore to appear - sometimes stress, illness, fevers, colds, sunlight, cold weather, menstruation, certain foods, allergies, you name it! They usually last 7-10 days and are more of an annoyance than a danger unless you have a weakened immune system or contract a bacterial infection on top of the cold sore.
