How Do They Fix Hammer Toes And How Long Must I Be Off My Feet Afterwards
Hammer toe: This depends on the severity and flexibility of the hammertoe and any other joint contractures. Examples include: simple transecting of a tendon on the underside of the toe, cutting of bone to resect a portion of the contracted joint to reduce the deformity with possible creation of a surgical fusion. Other procedures or fixation may be needed. Time off feet depends on what procedures are done.See 5 more doctor answers

1 day to 4 weeks: After neuroma surgery you can walk immediately as well as with hammertoe procedures. The rate limiting surgery is the bunionectomy. After some procedures it is ok to put weight immediately on the foot in a postop shoe or a walking brace (usually a soft tissue procedure) other types where the bone is cut or fused and held in place with screws/plate may have no weight for 4-8 weeks. Ask your surgeon.See 6 more doctor answers

Perhaps: Wearing compressive knee high socks would be a good idea.
Not complicated: Surgery is not complicated, however, it does require a period of immobilization after surgery pending on the type of procedure chosen by your surgeon. It takes at least 6 weeks to recover and I usually tell my patients that expect to be in regular shoes by 3 months after surgery.See 6 more doctor answers

What might cause foot pain on top of the foot? I have had two surgeries...a bunionecty and to repair hammer toes. I am still working on recovery.
Pain: This is best addressed by your surgeon. He/she knows what was done and when. None of the docs here have access to the x rays nor do we know what was the procedure. Your surgeon is your best source to answer any and all questions.
Treatment options: Treatment options include conservative and surgical management. Conservative management options include use of orthotic devices, change in shoe wear, medications such as oral no-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (nsaids), steroid injections, padding of corns and calluses, and splinting and strapping. See a specialist to get the appropriate treatment.See 2 more doctor answers

Second opinion.: I would recommend seeing a pediatric foot specialist. There are biomechanical issues that have to be considered. This cannot be determined without actually examining the patient.

I walk between 4&6 miles and the top of my foot below my toes will black and blue. It goes away if I'm off my feet.
Nice distance!: That sounds like a healthy walk. Considerations: Is it only one foot? Is there any pain? That fact that It goes away when you are off your feet, it might be due to veins. The return circulation causes the black-blue pigmentation. If you have prominent veins in your legs and feet, this is most likely veins.
