Hello is this safe I'm on 40mg propranolol a day and 250mg ranitidine I've recently started a very low dose of mitrazapine may be weaned off propranolol after 6 weeks if it works?

It is safe to: Take these medications together. It is not clear to me as to why you need to be weaned off your propranolol as it is not an antidepressant. It is a beta blocker. Monitor your blood pressure carefully to avoid a hypertensive episode as the propranolol is reduced. ...Read more

Is weaning off of low dose Methyldopa going to be a similar procedure to weaning off of Propranolol? Rebound symptoms? Gradual? Thank you!

Somewhat Similar: Since methyldopa is often given in more than one dose daily, it is important to gradually wean off it as abrupt discontinuation of it could lead to significant rebound in blood pressure. One difference with abrupt withdrawal of beta blocker is that heart rate as well as blood pressure can shoot upwards. ...Read more

Is there any withdrawal symptoms or do you have to wean off propranolol ER 80 mg capsule when you stop it. How you do it since it is capsule.?

Yes: Beta-blockers like propanolol need to be weaned off gradually, or your system will be overly stimulation to beta stimulation (your own adrenaline). Consider cutting the dose in half for a week, then a fourth for another week, then every other day for 4-6 days before stopping. You can ask for a smaller capsule strength, or buy empty gelatin capsules and split the dose. ...Read more

What is the general dosing/duration of propranolol for thyroid overmed induced HR/BP issues? Easy to wean off b-blocker? Given last night at ER 20mg

What is the general dosing/duration of propranolol for thyroid overmed induced HR/BP issues? Easy to wean off b-blocker? Given last night at ER 20mg

As long as it takes: The question posed is discombobulated but if you are asking how long u need to be on propranolol to counteract the effects of too much thyroid medication (levothyroxine), the answer is "as long as it takes for your body to get rid of the excess". Excess hormone causes a fast heart rate, which is blunted by propranolol. You need carefull monitoring. Don't stop suddenly, as the HR will rebound; tape ...Read more

Cardiologist told me to wean off Propranolol 10mg 2/d. I'm down to 2.5mg 2/d. Nauseous headache. Serious? Or normal rebound sidefx? Will it get better

Withdrawal HA: Hi Cynthia, headaches are not uncommon when coming off any medication. Propranolol is no exception. At your age, were you taking for migraine? Rebound symptoms can happen. Your doctor obviously wanted to limit the effects, so he had you taper off. If related to withdrawal, it should take a week or two off the medication for symptoms to subside. Hope that helps. ...Read more

Can you switch form none selective bb (propranolol ER 80 mg capsule) to selective beta blocker such as bystolic (nebivolol) 5 mg or bisobrolol with no wean off?

Usually Yes.: Your dose of Propranolol er 80 mg daily is high so you will need bystolic (nebivolol) 10 mg at least to begin with and may even need higher. Switch cane be made without weaning although there will be some initial withdrawal such as palpiatations or rise in pulse rate and BP but should not last longer. ...Read more

What equivalent dose of propranolol ER to replace 5 mg bystolic (nebivolol). Do you need to wean off bystolic (nebivolol) if you are moving to propranolol er.? Thanks.

What equivalent dose of propranolol ER to replace 5 mg bystolic (nebivolol). Do you need to wean off bystolic (nebivolol) if you are moving to propranolol er.? Thanks.

20-40: There is no definite equivalent dose. 5 mg of bystolic (nebivolol) is a fairly low dose and would like be equivalent to 20 or 40 mg in propanolol la. Both are beta blockers, so there is no need to wean. You can switch directly from one to the other. ...Read more
