How do I stop root canal pain? Thought it was gone when canal finished?

How do I stop root canal pain? Thought it was gone when canal finished?

Patience: Often, a tooth will be tender/sore after having a root canal. This can last several days or more, especially if the tooth and tissues surrounding the tooth's root were in bad shape before the root canal. The root canal takes care of the cause of the problem, but the surrounding tissues still need time to heal. If it lasts more than a few days or so, see the treating dentist. ...Read more

I had my tooth done with root canal procedures last 2007. Is it true that it should be pulled off after 10 years? How long does a root canal last?

No time limit: Correctly treated and appropriately restored, a root canal treated tooth could last a lifetime. There are other factors like regular visits to your dentist, oral hygiene, etc... That all lay a roll, but it should last longer than 10 years if you and your dentist follow conventional routine. ...Read more

I had my root canal treatment on front tooth last april 7,2015 but not yet put crown.to my surprise,it feels sensitivity to cold now and cant use to bite because it pains. Is it normal?what should i do?

It is not normal: After a root canal the tooth should not be sensitive to hot or cold, but it's not unusual for your tooth to be sensitive to biting. If this persists after a few weeks you should contact your dentist. ...Read more

Most Likely yes: If your dentist advised you, that you need root canal treatment, he/she likely made the recommendation based on some factors, which would have included the tooth's presentation on the xray radiograph, symptoms, clinical presentation of the tooth, and the history of the tooth. If you prefer, you can get a consultation from an endodontist (a root canal specialist) to confirm the diagnosis. ...Read more

I had my molar crowned first, and did root canal from bottom of crown, because of infection, pain etc. After root canal, when do I know it went well?

I had my molar crowned first, and did root canal from bottom of crown, because of infection, pain etc. After root canal, when do I know it went well?

About a week: A root canal from the bottom is typically done only after a conventional root canal treatment had been done. This procedure is called an apicoectomy. If this is your case, then your symptoms should resolve within a week. If a root canal was not done on that molar previously, you may want to see a specialist. ...Read more

I got a root canal done years ago. The temporary filling fell out and never got replaced. Now I have infection. I am on amoxicillin. Its day 3 and my tooth still hurts. When will the pain go away?

I got a root canal done years ago. The temporary filling fell out and never got replaced. Now I have infection. I am on amoxicillin. Its day 3 and my tooth still hurts. When will the pain go away?

When problem solved: We have no way of knowing if your root canal therapy was ever completed? Quality of the treatment? Recurrent infection? Fractured root? Adjacent tooth? Gum infection? Etc. Etc. I suggest a few things: first, see your dentist to go over your options for this particular problem. Second, follow the recommendations. Third, learn from your experience and get all your treatment done in a timely fashion. ...Read more

I just had root canal treatment this april 7,2015 but not yet put crown on it. Now,mu tooth feel sensitivity to cold and sensitivity goes on root?

Root canal: If you had a root canal completed, then the nerve inside the root that allows you to feel temperature changes has been removed and it's unlikely the sensitivity to cold is coming from the same tooth. However, the root canal treated tooth can be sensitive to pressure or biting or be sore. ...Read more

1.If root canaled tooth nerve is dead, how do I tell if, it reoccurs? 2.If root canaled tooth still feel something, was it unsuccessful, then what..?

RCT good or not: If you feel cold temperature it is definitely not done correctly, pain to heat and not cold may be an infection a visible abscess or an insufficient treatment can result in spontaneous pain, pain to bite or contact or swelling. If it is a new tx than there is a healing curve, but make sure the bite is ok. See your dentist or an endodontist if your answer doesn't resolve your questions. ...Read more

Give it time: The infection inside the tooth was cleared out by the root canal process, but there may be residual infection in the tissue surrounding the tooth. Now that the source of the infection has been removed, the body should fight off any remainder and over the space of a couple of weeks the parulis should disappear. Its shrinkage is a positive sign. ...Read more

Is it still supposed to hurt 2 weeks after a root canal when i bite down on something?

Root canal pain: Root canal therapy is a surgery and can be sore for a long time, like any other surgery. We look for whether the discomfort is getting better or worse. If it is getting better even if it is slowly, that's a good sign. If you have swelling, a fever or increased pain, see your dentist or an endodontist for peace of mind. ...Read more

Need an opinion about a root canal!? I had a root canal about 4 years ago. The dentist never put a cap/crown on it. Yesterday it started feeling very sensitive to cold. It does not hurt to chew on that side, doesn't hurt when i push on it and heat doesn't

Because : Because the nerve in the tooth was removed during the root canal procedure the tooth is unable to respond to changes in temperature. Though every root canal treated tooth does not need a crown, root canal treated teeth are more prone to fracture due to increased brittleness. Fractured teeth typically cause pain on biting pressure or increase the risk of infection as bacteria can migrate down the fracture. I would look at adjacent vital teeth as the source of your discomfort to changes in temperature either due to root exposure of decay. See your dentist as this is a sign that some treatment is required. ...Read more

I had a root canal but my tooth still hurts, what can I do?

Be patient 7-10 days: During the root canal therapy a lot of collateral tissue (gums, nerves, muscles) damage is done. The pain is a symptom of the affected tissue inflammation. Over the counter medications (Aleeve, Tylenol) for a few days will ameliorate the pain. If concerned? Call your dentist for post-op exploration. ...Read more

I was getting a root canal and dentist cut it on accident and now it hurts how can I help it heal faster?

I was getting a root canal and dentist cut it on accident and now it hurts how can I help it heal faster?

What got cut?: Hard to tell from your question, maybe your cheek or gums were inadvertently cut during the root canal procedure? Warm salt water rinse 2x per day may help. One way to prevent such a problem is to do the root canal with a rubber dam in place, which holds the tongue and cheek out of the way and protects you (and from other harms). If this wasn't used, find a new dentist. Period. ...Read more

A week ago I had a replacement crown put on tooth that previously had root canal. Tooth still hurts. Is this normal? How long could it hurt?

It's not the tooth..: It's the support tissues around the tooth (bone and gingiva). How long ago was the root canal therapy completed? Why was the crown replaced? Was there an abscess? Were you in pain before the crown was replaced? With so many questions to be answered, it's best you have the tooth re-evaluated by your dentist. ...Read more
