Mouth position: So long as the mouth is open, there is the potential for drooling. If the mouth is closed, not so much. Rarely, there can be an overproduction of saliva that results in overflow of saliva through the corner of the mouth. If that's the case, your pcp can recommend some medications to help. If it's just positional, get a supportive pillow that will help the person sleep with a closed mouth. ...Read more

Get an exam: I recommend seeing your dentist, oral surgeon, or otolaryngologist. My 5 month old baby is drooling a lot today and even now while she's sleeping, is it because she's teething or something I should be concerned?
Not necessarily: It is good to be observant and ready if anything comes up. However, babies have no social conscience and thus no inherent need to control their drool. They do a lot as babies but eventually decide to contain it. I see babies who never seem to "teethe" but end up with a full set. ...Read more

Not sure why: You fall asleep at 6 pm because you get up at 304 am. You would benefit form seeing your doc and or a sleep specialist. You may have food allergies. I would also consult an acupuncturist. You are clearly imbalanced and they offer a whole other dimension of care that is very helpful. ...Read more

What is pre teething? Can teething symptoms appear in a 10 week old? We have chewing, drooling, rubbing her face in her sleep, not sleeping well, etc. with no fever.
Of course: Your teeth just don't pop out of you gums like pop tarts out of the toaster. They have to cut their way through virgin gums that have never been cut through before. Your adult teeth don't do this because a path is already there. However, when baby's first teeth are coming in, there are weeks if not months of cutting through those gums, which includes the drooling, fussy etc etc. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
When do preemies get their first tooth? I have a 28-weeker who is now 5.5 months (2.5 months adjusted) and she seems to be showing signs of teething (drooling, irritability, chewing/sucking on everything in reach, and not sleeping as much).
Perfectly normal: Some babies are born with at least 1 erupted tooth. Some don't get a tooth until 18 months. 6 months is a little early but well within normal limits. As soon as 1st tooth erupts, but no later than 1st b'day, take baby to pediatric dental specialist, a Pedodontist (for all the same reasons you see a Pediatrician for medical care) for exam, developmental analysis, oral hygiene instruction, etc. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
