Weights shoulder: One should wait until there is adequate healing of the separation. Can I lift weights with two shoulder replacements. Will I ever be able to throw a football again?

Shoulder replacement: Once you have had shoulder reconstructions the normal musculature is weaker. Hence it is not advisable to lift weights that would impose stress on the shoulder or to throw a ball. You can still lift weights but restrict shoulder motion. ...Read more

Intense pain in my right shoulder when I try to lift weights on an incline bench. I literally cannot lift any weight w/out intense pain. Rotator cuff?

Intense pain in my right shoulder when I try to lift weights on an incline bench. I literally cannot lift any weight w/out intense pain. Rotator cuff?

Possibly!: If you can localize your pain ot the top (near ac joint) of the shoulder then consider ac joint as the source of pain. Certainly, other causes, such as rotator cuff tears cannot be ruled out unless proper evaluation and work-up by an orthopedist has been performed. Please see an orthopedist. In the meantime avoid any painful activitity, ice the painful area, consider the use of antiinflammatories. ...Read more

Is it ok to lift weights after shoulder replacement surgery?

Be careful: The artificial parts of a total shoulder arthroplasty are not as durable as the native joint. The more you use them the faster they will wear out. This has been clearly shown in hip and knee replacements. I would expect it to be no different in shoulder replacements. I would stick to low weights and intensity lifting. Talk to your surgeon for clarification. ...Read more

I think I may have pulled a muscle under my shoulder, when I stretch my arm it hurts, I lift weights would it be best if i stop till it feels better?

Sprain/rotator cuff: The most common cause of shoulder pain and impingement of abduction and overhead reach in the setting of weight lifting is a rotator cuff tendinitis or tear of the conjoint tendon. A PT can evaluate your range of motion. Rest, ice and topical NSAID creams and patches available at drugstores are very effective. If impingement persists you may need an MRI and sports/Ortho referral. ...Read more

I play baseball, noticed my shoulder pain 2 weeks ago. It only hurts when i throw, but no pain or weakness when i lift weights. What's wrong?

Get it checked out: You should see a physician for a formal evaluation (better if they have a sports medicine specialty). There are several small injuries that, if left untreated, may cause problems long term. Rotator cuff or cartilage injuries are at the top of the list. ...Read more

I noticed a bony lump on the top of my left shoulder bone. Not paining but it's grinding when rotate the shoulder. I lift weights. Cause for worry?

Prob AC joint: The AC joint is on the top of your shoulder, about 2 inches from the outside edge. I suspect this is what is bothering you. It is easily irritated by repetitive movement and strain. It would take an exam to know exactly where your problem is. Back off on your lifting and try some ibuprofen. If it doesn't go away, see your doctor. ...Read more

I experience pain at the joint of neck and shoulder whenever I lift weight (even 200gm), wear suit jacket, and mainly when I bend to down-right.

I experience pain at the joint of neck and shoulder whenever I lift weight (even 200gm), wear suit jacket, and mainly when I bend to down-right.

PleaseNoCalisthenics: 200 grams? That's only about 7 pounds! Whatever you have is pretty darned sensitive. It's really restricting your right to living free in this Democratic Republic! I suggest you see someone about it so that they can examine what's going on. Without knowing more about you and your circumstances that's the best advice I think I can give. Until then, wear a T-shirt and don't bend down to the right. ...Read more

Labral tear: Shoulder injuries due to weight lifting in your age group usually affects the labrum an important stabilizer of the shoulder. The biceps tendon attaches to it, and can be affected as well. The rotator cuff is rarely injured in your age group, but possible. If pain doesnt improve with rest and nsaids its best to see a sports medicine trained orthopedic surgeon for a thorough evaluation. ...Read more

No: We use the cross arm test for diagnosis. This is a sign of an old injury that has partially torn the shoulder joint capsule. An MRI is diagnostic and the Rx is arthroscopic repair. Good luck! ...Read more

My right shoulder is lower than the left shoulder, also my left knee gets painful when I lift gym weights, are they inter-relatrd? Thx a lot doctors.

Probably unrelated: I would think that the shoulder height discrepancy might be related to either a scoliosis or muscular problem affecting the upper back region. The knee pain with exercise is probably related to a specific knee problem and should be evaluated by an orthopedist along with a discussion of the type of exercise which causes problems. ...Read more

Sore shoulder. Hurts when I put full body weight on right arm, reach for things, throw & when I lift arm out and up it makes a pop when I lower arm?

Be seen: I sure would not hesitate to be seen. The three most common causes are an injury to the rotator cuff, the labrum, or the ligaments that stabilize the shoulder. An exam can give a good idea about wether or not it is serious. ...Read more
