How Do I Know If I Have A Hairline Fracture In My Pinky Toe Bone
A fracture is a broken bone. As there is cartilage at the end of many bones at the joint, a fracture may also include a break in the cartilage. Fractures and broken bones are the same thing. It seems that many believe that a "fracture" is a lesser injury or an incomplete break in the bone, but this is not correct. Fractures may be displaced or ...Read more

A foot x-ray: Foot x-rays will diagnose most obvious fractures of the foot. There are less obvious forms of injury, such as a stress fracture that might require specialized testing (such as a bone scan or mri). These can detect bone injury where normal x-rays cannot. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Repeat Xray or MRI: Initial xray may not show, but should in about 2 wks or so. An MRI is a much better test for for small fracture. A bone scan can also show this. If you did not have trauma, fracture is not likely. Use of antiinflammatory med such as aleve/motrin for pain, and a wrist splint may help quite a bit. Rest, but should have some gentle range of motion to avoid stiffness. Consult doc. Good luck. ...Read more
Get it seen: You do not mention how and when you injured yourself. In any event the only sure way is to have your wrist seen by your doctor and see if you need further studies like x-rays. ...Read more
Symptoms and Imaging: Stress fractures usually cause pain, but may also cause swelling and discoloration. The nature of stress fractures can make them very hard to identify on x-rays, but some may be apparent based on their size or phase in healing. Larger stress fractures or those that have had some to start healing are often the ones that can be seen with x-ray. The most specific test for a stress fracture is a mri. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have had a broken femur bone in my right ankle when i was a teenager. I want to know if i will ever get arthritis in that leg ?
Bone bruise: To be sure about a "bone bruise" or contusion, an MRI is usually the best way. However, a toe bone bruise is not a serious injury that needs an mri. Instead, simple x-rays, and clinical findings of pain, swelling should be sufficient enough. I hope this helps, if so please vote me up, or follow me. Xrays are a start: Thank you for your question. A dislocation of a joint is usually very apparent on an xray and is also usually associated with severe pain. A "hairline" fracture can often be seen on xray, but not always. Sometimes, if the xras are negative and clinical suspcion is high, further studies such as a bone scan, mri, or ct scan can establish the diagnosis. Thanks again, ed hellman. ...Read more

Matters which bone: It matters which bone in the elbow was chipped. Usually after a chipped or "non displaced" elbow fracture a cast is not needed because putting an elbow in a cast will cause the elbow to get very stiff. Usually a sling for a few days to a week is needed then gentle motion is started. See your md to get the definitive diagnosis. ...Read more
Is it broken or fractured is a question I am often asked. The answer is basically that a broken or fractured bone is the same thing. A fracture means a break in the cortex or the strong layer of outer bone cells. In an adult the average time for that to heal varies greatly but is often considered to ...Read more
