I'm taking 40 mg omeprazole every day for 24/7 gerd. My doctor is discouraging surgery. Are there risks for taking omeprazole for years?

Go see your doctor: When someone reports throwing up something that looks like coffee grinds, we worry about digested blood in the stomach, eg bleeding ulcer. Therefore, if you're reporting coffee grind appearance to your stool, it's a good idea to go see your family doc who can arrange for a repeat endoscopy since lots of Aspirin can lead to bleeding ulcers.
