What's the treatment for pregnant women with hypopituitarism? Wich hormones should be checked and how often?

What's the treatment for pregnant women with hypopituitarism? Wich hormones should be checked and how often?

Depends: B"sd replacement therapy for hypopit is challenging and can be very challenging during pregnancy. Much depends it partial or panhypopit. The later includes managing diabetes insipidus with changing dosing. Also corticosteroid replacement may change and thyroid dosing needs to be adjusted over the trimesters. Finally if gonadotropins missing, need endo reproductive specialist - not me.

Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

I was wondering what are the physical features of a person who has hypopituitarism?

Hypopit: If all the hormones of the pituitary are low, you will manifest the symptoms of low thyroid, adrenal, sex hormones, etc. One form of acquired hypopit is sheehan's syndrome, which you can read about. Http://www. Yourhormones. Info/endocrine_conditions/sheehans_syndrome. Aspx. The sex hormones (lh and fsh) are among the first to go, and they would be among the first to check for.

Could you tell if a person - say a child - has hypopituitarism just by looking at him/her?

Could you tell if a person - say a child - has hypopituitarism just by looking at him/her?

No: Hi. No, you can't tell just by looking at him/her. But the child with hypopituitarism will be very low & falling off the growth chart, so the pediatrician will initiate the work up, which will include hypopituitarism among the possibilities.

What are the tests for hypopituitarism child?

What are the tests for hypopituitarism child?

Many: There are a variety of blood tests and imaging such as an mri. The pituitary gland is involved in many functions, such as the thyroid, sex hormones, growth hormone and adrenal function. Thus man y things may be looked.

Why don't people with hypopituitarism require mineralocorticoids?

Different control: Hi. Good question. As you know, cortisol production by the adrenal cortex is exquisitely regulated by ACTH from the pituitary. In ACTH-deficiency (hypo pit.), cortisol must be replaced. The primary regulator of aldosterone production is the renin-angiotensin system, which does NOT involved the pituitary, and functions just fine in hypopituitarism. ACTH will acutely stimulate aldo, but is not req'd

What is the treatment for hypopituitarism?

What is the treatment for hypopituitarism?

Hormone replacement: Depends on the age and the severity of the hormone deficiency. If you are truly pan-hypopit, you will need thyroid, steroid and sex hormone replacement (i.E: males- testosterone replacement...).

Is hyperpigmentation a part of hypopituitarism?

Is hyperpigmentation a part of hypopituitarism?

No: Not typically as hyperpigmentation if due to adrenal insufficiency, is because there is increased acth hormone signaling. This latter hormone is often missing in individuals with steroid dependent hypopituitarism.

How to ask my doctor to test me for hypopituitarism?

How to ask my doctor to test me for hypopituitarism?

Just ask: Doctors are easy to talk to, if the test is indicated from your symptoms, then it may be done, ordering tests just out of curiosity is not covered by any insurances. You would have to pay for your curiosity testing.

Do people with hypopituitarism grow?

Yes: Patients with growth hormone deficiency as part of hypopituitarism receive growth hormone treatment. Such children see pediatric endocrinologists to treat their hypopituitarism.

12
Are there any diets for people with hypopituitarism?

Not Really: Dysfunction of the pituitary gland requires hormonal therapies, not diet.

What is the definition or description of: Hypopituitarism?

Hypopituitarism: Hypopituitarism = pituitary gland has diminished or no production of hormone (s). Is one cause of dwarfism.

What is the triple bolus test? How does it relate to hypopituitarism?

Triple bolus test: I can't answer your question without more information. What is in the bolus test? Is your hypopituiterism being treated, and is the "bolus test" simply a follow up to check that all is OK?

What is the difference between hypothyroidism and hypopituitarism?

What is the difference between hypothyroidism and hypopituitarism?

Pituitary & thyroid: Hypopit patients are missing many or all of their pituitary hormones because of pituitary or hypothalamic damage. Growth hormone, lh/fsh, tsh, acth, adh, (vasopressin) etc. Hypopit patients often are hypothyroid because they can't make the thyroid stim hormone (tsh). People who are just hypothyroid can't make thyroid hormone because of thyroid damage. Tsh is high in such patients.

Will hypopituitarism cause infertility in either a male or female child eventually?

Will hypopituitarism cause infertility in either a male or female child eventually?

No: Most cases of hypopitiuitarism do not involve the cells that produce puberty signals. Only by measuring puberty hormone levels during the first 3 months of life or around puberty that fertility state can be assessed. A genetic test can also help if it is feasible.

Can you explain the symptoms and treatment for hypopituitarism, which my dad has been diagnosed with?

Can you explain the symptoms and treatment for hypopituitarism, which my dad has been diagnosed with?

Many hormones: The pituitary makes many hormones that control adrenals (cortisol), thyroid, growth hormone, reproductive hormones, and more. Hypopit is an imprecise term but means that some or all of these hormones are deficient, with symptoms associated with the specific hormones. Cause can be tumor, trauma, radiation, other diseases. The hormones need to be replaced under the care of an endocrinologist.

What are symptoms of hypopituitarism and when to be concerned? Hx of dwarfism caused by deficient pituitary.

Hypopituitarism: If entire pituitary affected, not just growth hormone, other hormones such as gonadotropins, TSH and ACTH will be low as well. Symptoms are those of target gland dysfunction - absent or diminished secondary sex characteristics or menses, thyroid or adrenal insufficiency.
