Fracture (Definition)

A fracture is a broken bone. As there is cartilage at the end of many bones at the joint, a fracture may also include a break in the cartilage. Fractures and broken bones are the same thing. It seems that many believe that a "fracture" is a lesser injury or an incomplete break in the bone, but this is not correct. Fractures may be displaced or ...Read more

I droped a hair dryer on my foot right under the big toe. Looks a little bruise but hurts. Is it fractured?

I droped a hair dryer on my foot right under the big toe. Looks a little bruise but hurts. Is it fractured?

Maybe: Could be, but we don't do much for toe fractures other than a post-op (rigid sole) shoe and weight bear as tolerated.

Stubbed toe, (beside big toe) few days ago, bruising, min. Swelling but hurts when I move it, esp. Right on top of foot, could I have fractured it?

Maybe: Only way to tell is with an X-ray. If the toe is still straight, the only thing that is usually done is a splint to the adjacent toe. If the symptoms are bad enough, and/or the toe is deformed, best to have an X-ray. See an orthopedist next week to get this done. Otherwise, need to go to an ER. Hope this helps!

Toe fracture: A follow up x-ray or MRI may be needed to assess the bone. I recommend seeing an orthopedic foot specialist.

Could you tell me if my foot is still really bruised does that mean the broken bone isn't healing?

Could you tell me if my foot is still really bruised does that mean the broken bone isn't healing?

it may mean that: Your foot got really bruised and it take a few weeks for hte bruisng to begin to go away but it is dependent upoi=n how much bruisng you started with, your general health and circulation, how swollen you were, how agresviley you iced or elvated to reduce swelling and bruising initially. And certainly of bruising is going away and then comes back then one needs to get reevaluated.

When should I start walking after fifth toe displaced fracture? Ten days and still hurts when I lower my foot. New bruises also sprang up in foot

When should I start walking after fifth toe displaced fracture? Ten days and still hurts when I lower my foot. New bruises also sprang up in foot

Maybe a second look.: I would think that ten days is enough time to allow you to walk with some mild to moderate pain. Since you are seeing new bruising something else should be considered. While enjoying the toe fracture, did you fracture something else that is now affecting you recovery. You need to get the foot x-rayed and check for other fractures. Nsaids should take the edge off and perhaps an accommodating shoe.

BRUISE/SPRAIN: You hit your toe against something hard enough to break it. My guess is, you hit the rest of the foot hard also, but didn't notice it because the toe hurt so much. Now it's badly bruised. Sincerely, Dr. Latva

Pain near toes for 4weeks, now small boney lump on top of foot. Fuzzy feeling in toes. Could this be a fracture? No swelling, little bruising.

Ganglion cyst?: Sounds like this could be a ganglion cyst (fluid filled bump). Does it move around? Could be interfering with a nerve causing the "fuzzy" feeling in the toes. Usually there is no bruising with a ganglion unless the cause was trauma. This should be checked out by your physician. You can never be too cautious about bumps or lumps.

I kicked the bottom of my car door. It hurt when it happened not as much anymore. The top of my foot is starting to swell and bruise. Is it fractured?

Fractured?: A fracture could be a possibility. Although right at the top of your foot there are structures that include blood vessels tendons and nerves. If a blood vessel or tendon was injured you could also see bruising. Consult your podiatrist.

Bruised foot possible fracture, should I be concerned?

Bruised foot possible fracture, should I be concerned?

Foot pain: Your feet may feel pain after an injury. It is normal to feel less pain as the days pass. Prolonged pain may be due to an undiagnosed condition such as a stress fracture. I would recommend you see a doctor and get some xrays.
