How Can I Tell If My Big Toe Fractured Or Just Badly Bruised
A fracture is a broken bone. As there is cartilage at the end of many bones at the joint, a fracture may also include a break in the cartilage. Fractures and broken bones are the same thing. It seems that many believe that a "fracture" is a lesser injury or an incomplete break in the bone, but this is not correct. Fractures may be displaced or ...Read more

I droped a hair dryer on my foot right under the big toe. Looks a little bruise but hurts. Is it fractured?
Maybe: Could be, but we don't do much for toe fractures other than a post-op (rigid sole) shoe and weight bear as tolerated.See 1 more doctor answer
Stubbed toe, (beside big toe) few days ago, bruising, min. Swelling but hurts when I move it, esp. Right on top of foot, could I have fractured it?
Maybe: Only way to tell is with an X-ray. If the toe is still straight, the only thing that is usually done is a splint to the adjacent toe. If the symptoms are bad enough, and/or the toe is deformed, best to have an X-ray. See an orthopedist next week to get this done. Otherwise, need to go to an ER. Hope this helps!
I fractured my big toe 6 months ago. Should it still be sore? The swelling and bruising has gone but I have pain a lot of the time, even sitting down
Toe fracture: A follow up x-ray or MRI may be needed to assess the bone. I recommend seeing an orthopedic foot specialist.
Does bruising normally occur after a fracture or break in a foot and pain in big toe, what causes that?
My teenage daughter's big toe (and into her foot) hurts to bend, and there is no bruising. Strain, sprain or fracture?
Could you tell me if my foot is still really bruised does that mean the broken bone isn't healing?
it may mean that: Your foot got really bruised and it take a few weeks for hte bruisng to begin to go away but it is dependent upoi=n how much bruisng you started with, your general health and circulation, how swollen you were, how agresviley you iced or elvated to reduce swelling and bruising initially. And certainly of bruising is going away and then comes back then one needs to get reevaluated.See 1 more doctor answer
Have avulsion fracture of 5th metatarsal...26 days ago. Just off crutches and into walking boot. Why am I bruised on top of foot near 2nd/3rd toes?
Bleeding: When I bone breaks it oozes blood. The blood can pool because of gravity and likely ended up near 2nd/3rd toes for you.
Swelling/ bruised top of my foot (middle but below 2nd toes) is it a stress fracture? Or what should I do? Been like this for a few months
When should I start walking after fifth toe displaced fracture? Ten days and still hurts when I lower my foot. New bruises also sprang up in foot
Maybe a second look.: I would think that ten days is enough time to allow you to walk with some mild to moderate pain. Since you are seeing new bruising something else should be considered. While enjoying the toe fracture, did you fracture something else that is now affecting you recovery. You need to get the foot x-rayed and check for other fractures. Nsaids should take the edge off and perhaps an accommodating shoe.See 1 more doctor answer
Laptop fell on my foot from a height of 3.5 ft. I have swelling and bruising around the impacted spot and numbness and tingling in toes. I have pain and I walk with a limp; it is also cold. Could my foot be fractured?
I fracture my foot dislocated my little toe and damaged my ligament on Sunday. How long will it be bruised for?
10-14 days: The fracture itself will usually heal by 6-8 weeks, but most bruising resolves in the 10-14 day range.
I had fifth toe fracture last week. Yesterday I noted a large bruise in the centre of foot extremely painful and is not letting me hang my foot/walk?
BRUISE/SPRAIN: You hit your toe against something hard enough to break it. My guess is, you hit the rest of the foot hard also, but didn't notice it because the toe hurt so much. Now it's badly bruised. Sincerely, Dr. LatvaSee 2 more doctor answers
Pain near toes for 4weeks, now small boney lump on top of foot. Fuzzy feeling in toes. Could this be a fracture? No swelling, little bruising.
Ganglion cyst?: Sounds like this could be a ganglion cyst (fluid filled bump). Does it move around? Could be interfering with a nerve causing the "fuzzy" feeling in the toes. Usually there is no bruising with a ganglion unless the cause was trauma. This should be checked out by your physician. You can never be too cautious about bumps or lumps.
I dropped a 8 pound weight on foot. How do I know i'f it's broken or fractured? Or that it's just bruised up?

I kicked the bottom of my car door. It hurt when it happened not as much anymore. The top of my foot is starting to swell and bruise. Is it fractured?
Yes: This is possible, for example a stress fracture of the foot can occur in runners or military personnel, without any overt swelling or bruising. If you have had persistent localized bony pain, you should see a physician for further evaluation.
Foot pain: Your feet may feel pain after an injury. It is normal to feel less pain as the days pass. Prolonged pain may be due to an undiagnosed condition such as a stress fracture. I would recommend you see a doctor and get some xrays.
