How can I prevent inflammation of stomach lining due to blood thinner plavix (clopidogrel)?

How can I prevent inflammation of stomach lining due to blood thinner plavix (clopidogrel)?

Acid inhibitors: Plavix, (clopidogrel) especially when taken with Aspirin as it often is, can cause stomach bleeding. If this is a risk, you can lessen it by taking a strong acid suppressor such as omeprazole. While there has been controversy about interactions between these drugs and plavix, (clopidogrel) the best evidence says that it is more of a theoretical than real problem. ...Read more

Blood Thinners (Definition)

Agents which slow ;/or break down blood clot formation in up to 3 different ways (they do not decrease blood viscosity; thickness.) (1) some inhibit platelet function (e.g. Aspirin, clopidogrel, etc.). (2) others interfere with some of the clot forming proteins (warfarin, dabigatran, rivaroxaban, etc.), (3) others stimulate the blood clot destruction ...Read more

How does one prevent inflammation of stomach lining due to bloodthinner plavix (clopidogrel)?

How does one prevent inflammation of stomach lining due to bloodthinner plavix (clopidogrel)?

It doesn't...: Plavix does not cause inflammation of the stomach lining. If you have inflammation it is from some other cause, like helicobacter pylori infection. If your stomach burns after taking plavix, take it on a full stomach. Talk to a G.I. Specialist and have an endoscopy, they may give you a proton pump inhibitor or cytotec (misoprostol). ...Read more

Can Plavix (clopidogrel) prevent a blood clot forming due to AF? Can't take anticoagulants.

Can Plavix (clopidogrel) prevent a blood clot forming due to AF? Can't take anticoagulants.

Plavix (clopidogrel) and afib: ACTIVE trial -Plavix (clopidogrel) +ASA(100) reduced vascular event ( stroke, MI, embolism) in AF with bleeding comparable to warfarin, but ACTIVE W trial noted warfarin was superior to ASA + Plavix (clopidogrel) in preventing vascular events. That said The AHA does not recommend adding Plavix (clopidogrel) to ASA. The first choice is warfarin followed by dabigitran, apixaban and rivaroxaban.ASA would be last. Talk to a cardiologist. ...Read more

Hopefully : Hopefully you called the poison control center or received some other advice. Plavix and tylenol (acetaminophen) (acetamenophen) are two totally different medications. Assuming your friend is otherwise healthy without a significant drinking history, taking a mildly excessive amount of tylenol (acetaminophen) one time probably will not hurt her. However, she should abstain from tylenol (acetaminophen) containing products for the rest of the day. ...Read more

?

Anticoagulation : Anticoagulation is recommended for patients with atrial fibrillation and CHADS2 score of 2 or higher for stroke prevention.
