How Can I Make The Experience Of Getting Shots Less Traumatizing For My Son
My son is scared to go to the dentist to get a cavity filled because of the novacaine shot. Is there another way?
Absolutely: The filling may be so small that a novocaine injection is not needed. In addition, most offices offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) which will allow the dentist to perform the procedure with no anxiety on your son's part. As a very, very, last resort, sedation can be used. A pediatric dentist may be better for him if he is really that apprehensive. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Is fever after every vaccintaion normal? Does it signal a weak immune system? I'm concerned because my son always seems to get one after a shot.
Depends on vaccine: Not all vaccines cause fever, some more likely than others. For example the Dtap vaccine and the VZV and MMR vaccines which are live vaccines are more likely to have a fever associated with them. It does not signal a weak immune system, in fact it most likely means the pt's immune response to the vaccine is good. Treat the fever for its uncomfortable symptoms. ...Read more
My son is allergic to a vaccine but i don't know which one. He has mild end autism spectrum disorder. If he is sensitive to vaccines can he get a flu shot?
Depends: Depends upon whom you ask. Some people think that teething can cause a mild fever and some say it is merely a coincidence. It might be a cold that your child caught and is teething at the same time. Bottom line if your child is running a fever please use palliative measures to help your child feel better. Frozen teething rings, appropriate tylenol (acetaminophen) for age and weight and encourage fluids. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
