Pain, red, discharge: Keep them clean with peroxide and they should heal if superficial. It is time for you to find that therapist and talk. It is amazing what a skilled person using guided imagery can do to get to the root of your pain. If you want to feel something normal again after what you have been through, you must do the work. The cutting just provides a temporary distraction. ...Read more

How can I get over the guilt feeling after a break up of a 9 years relationship? It was the best choice for both of us but hes so hurt, its killing me

The bottom line is: That you can't prevent him from grieving. As much as you care, he wil need to work through this loss. Nine years is a long time- so i wouldn't expect him to bounce back quickly. When they say 'breaking up is hard to do' - it really is the truth. I know this is difficult. ...Read more

How likely, are the risks of septoplasty surgery and healing time? What i'm afraid of is a rebound affect with my sinuses after surgery. I don't want to piss of my turbinites and have them come back worse than it is and worry about a follow up surgery to

Many : Many times septoplasty is all that is needed to correct nasal obstruction. Perhaps 1/2 or my patients also suffer from rhinitis. If we have not made headway with nasal steroid sprays, then i will discuss the need for resection of the bony part of the lower turbinates. This is a simple and quick way to open the nasal passage even further. This procedure will not eliminate allergies or other causes of rhinitis butter will open then airway for improved breathing. As far as smelling the tg dinner goes, as long as there are no other reasons for loss of smell ie polyps, a mass, or anosmia to mention a few, surgery this week may help for next week. As always your ENT doc will discuss all of these things with you. ...Read more

I'm getting braces in a few weeks and I am wondering what the procedure will be like and how it will affect me in the coming months?

It is easy: Getting orthodontic appliances put on is in this modern age, a very simple procedure. Generally will take less than 1.5 hours, almost painless, just a bit annoying. As an adult it takes a little longer to adjust to the braces, but in general your discomfort will be gone in approx. 1 week. Each subsequent appointment will mean a bit of tenderness, but by 6mo in, you will be completely accommodated. ...Read more

A few ideas: -this forum is a place where doctors come to try to help patients. I bet your doctor is trying to help you when you visit there as well. -i would make sure they are taking a multivitamin that especially contains some vitamin d. Extra in the winter when we can't go outside can help. Saline to the nose twice a day can benefit them. Handwashing with soap&water can help. Disinfectants and bleach wipes. ...Read more

How long can I expect the results of my cheek lift to last? I am considering having a cheek lift because i want to look a little younger and a little fresher before my 20 year high school reunion. To keep the results, will i need maintenance every five ye

A : A cheek lift may be achieved in several ways. A midface lift is a type of cheek lift that addresses soft tissues like a facelift does for the lower face and neck, it raises the tissues of the cheek, the laugh lines (nasolabial folds) and plumps up the cheek mound. This surgery will last anywhere between 3 years and 12 years depending on all the general factors that determine how fast you age including sun exposure, smoking, genetics, etc. In the case of a midface lift, there is a cance you may need a touch up (not necessarily surgery) after five years including chemical peel, laser resurfacing or other procedures to complement the appearance of your lower eyelids. Another way to lift the cheek by a procedure called cheekbone augmentation in which we place an implant to make the cheeks appera tighter and rejuvenated, cheek implants last for many many years and dont usually require revision surgery. With good skin care and protection, you can maintain your appearance (pending your own genetics ofcourse) for a long period of time. Consult with your facial plastic surgeon regarding the various options and which option would be best suited to the complaints you may have about your appearance. ...Read more

Great : Great question. Your genetics/aging can play a role. We all do not age similarly. Generally the fairer your skin, the more wrinkles and fat loss that occur with aging which can shorten the duration. The technique of correction/surgery can also play a difference. I generally do not recommend 'overcorrection' just so that it lasts longer. If you are considering surgery before your reunion, make sure you allow enough time for adequate healing so that you are not pushing it too close to your deadline. Maintenance can take many different forms, not necessarily the same surgery. As you age, i would suggest re-evaluating your appearance at that time and seeing what bothers you then. ...Read more

I have fuchs. My eyes are irritated/red all the time and now the pain is lasting hours at a time making it hard to work or live. What are my options?

Fuchs dystrophy: Is a condition which causes premature aging of the lining of the cornea (the clear covering of the eye). This lining contains a layer of cells called the endothelium, which functions to keep the cornea clear and free of swelling. In severe cases of fuchs', the corneal surface can become rough and irritated. Drops can help, but you may need surgery on the cornea to help in the long term. ...Read more
