How can I make sure my baby is warm enough at night without using blankets?

How can I make sure my baby is warm enough at night without using blankets?

Dress appropriately: In general when dressing your baby you can dress them as you would dress yourself plus one thin layer. In wintertime, depending on your home temperature, it is usually best to dress him with a short sleeve snap top, followed with a warm footed one piece. If this is not enough, add another layer and see if your baby is sweating. In the warmer months remove layers accordingly. No blankets needed. ...Read more

Baby won't nurse during the day, but will at night or when sleepy. Pumping gives me dermatitis so I can't keep that up. What should i do?

Baby won't nurse during the day, but will at night or when sleepy. Pumping gives me dermatitis so I can't keep that up. What should i do?

Change it: You have fallen into a trap. The baby is using the nurturing of the breast to fall asleep & resettle during the night. The kid doesn't see it as a feed but as a pacifier. You need to only offer the breast during the day and only when the kid is awake. Have someone else feed him a bottle if s/he won't take it from you. If this helps, never feed him closer than a half hour before sleep. ...Read more

My 6wk baby is very clingy. During the day I use a sling but at night i want to sleep. Suggestion?

New plan needed: Using a sling all day essentially returns baby to the movements and closeness of the womb.Separation at night is a dramatic change. The reaction is expected. Begin gradually placing baby in the crib for longer periods between feedings so baby accepts it as a safe place. The sling is fine for temporary transport but i would retire it as an all day placement. ...Read more

My 2 months old baby is sleeping very well during the day but she cannot sleep easily at night and stay awake and crying until 4am. What can I do?

Your : Your son is actually not old enough to brush his teeth himself. He will not possess the necessary manual dexterity for another couple of years. As a parent of similarly aged children, i brush their teeth personally every night, and then they give it a go. This is the only way for me to know that hygiene is proper. I encourage you to do the same. Make sure that the toothpaste used taste good to him, and make it a set routine. ...Read more

My 2yr old still has a bottle of milk to comfort her before bed. Shes tried to go without but it makes bedtime very difficult. Is 2 too old for bottle?

Yes,if sugar in it: The bottle itself is not as bad as what you put in it.Bottling leaves the feed in front of the mouth covering the teeth where the bacteria form an acid as they digest the sugar in the feed. This erodes the enamel and will destroy the teeth. If you put water in the bottle, the kid can have her comfort device without the decay. Over time she will toss it as boring.Offering a teddy bear might help. ...Read more

Can you explain why aren't space blankets used to keep neonatal children warm?

Need access to baby: While we do need to keep these babies warm and keep their fluids in, also need access to them, so something like a space blanket can limit access and also visualization of the baby to see how they are doing. We actually in pinch will use saran wrap to keep in heat and fluid without losing the ability to see the baby. In developing countries things like space blankets are used for growing preemies. ...Read more

My left leg below the knee, on the left side keeps going cold.......Even when i rub it or cover it with blankets it doesn't get warm.

Circulation reduced: Coldness in just one leg raises the question of blocked arterial circulation in that leg. Having your doctor check pulses in your feet is the place to start. If the pulses in that leg are diminished compared to the good leg, this can be evaluated by a vascular lab pressure measurement. This can be ordered by your primary care doctor or a vascular surgeon. ...Read more

Is it possible a portable heater could make my nursery a little too humid & warm, causing my babies to get sick more easily?

Is it possible a portable heater could make my nursery a little too humid & warm, causing my babies to get sick more easily?

Unlikely : Heaters will actually dry out a room, not make it humid. Often, the humidity can drop 10% or more in a room with a heater compared to the rest of the house.A simple humidity gauge can help you monitor the situation. Many run on button batteries and can register rapid change in humidity. The preferred humidity within a kid space runs 40-45%.Above 50% you increase dust mites, below 30% they cough. ...Read more
