How can I help my baby adjust and fall asleep in new surroundings?

How can I help my baby adjust and fall asleep in new surroundings?

Bedtime routine!: Develop a short but very consistent bedtime routine that you can use anywhere. When you use it regularly at home and condition your baby to go to sleep with that routine, you can then use it at a friend's house, on a trip, anywhere. Add in a "lovey" to have an extra bit of familiarity at bedtime. ...Read more

How can I help my baby adjust to sleeping in his room and not in our bed?

How can I help my baby adjust to sleeping in his room and not in our bed?

Consistency: Babies do not make choices, we make choices for them. If they sleep in our bed, it's because we put them there. If they are put down only in the crib, they will accept it, that's reality. Start by putting them down while awake, so they know their bed is the sleep place. If they fuss after a few minutes, come in, comfort them, and put them back in the crib. The crib will become the sleep place. ...Read more

Insomnia: can be difficult to treat. You are likely not ready to go to sleep ( my guess is you force yourself to bed early so you can wake up early for work or school ) One way to combat this is to " pull an all nighter" on the weekend. The next day you'll run out of steam and get sleepy early. If the music persists try a white noise generator at night. ...Read more

How can I get my toddler to start sleeping on her own instead of in our bed? She's 18m old now.

How can I get my toddler to start sleeping on her own instead of in our bed? She's 18m old now.

Put in own bed!: Why should your toddler sleep in his own bed when you teach him that your bed is the only safe place to sleep. He can only learn by being put in the position. (put him in his bed). Don't think he won't cry cause he will. But if you give in you will teach him crying will get what you want. Teach him the comfort. Spend some play time there, read there, listen to music there. Make his bed the best! ...Read more

Can you help me, during fall my asthma gets so bad it gets to amuch school what can I do to help my asthma ease up in the fall time?

Treatment plan: Asthma may get worse in the fall b/c of fall allergens, increased exposure to indoor allergens and viral syndromes. One's physician should be able to prescribe a preventive treatment program to help. If this is not being done then seeing an asthma specialist - an allergist for example, may be helpful. ...Read more

At the hospital - am going to get meds to help me sleep, and calm down my PTSD, hopefully this will help me to get back on track with my life so tired?

I am not sure how: the Canadian medical system works in terms of ease of self -admission for psychiatric purposes. In the US certain indications must be met for admission to be approved (usually). I can't speak for the hospital but when I treat PTSD - getting good sleep is a one of the top priorities. ...Read more

Can you tell me how I could get my 11 month old twins to sleep in their crib after co sleeping?

Can you tell me how I could get my 11 month old twins to sleep in their crib after co sleeping?

Allow them to learn: to self-calm for sleep. if you missed the optimal period for this, 1-4 mos., they may have to "unlearn" bad habits. Have a consistent bedtime & routine including reading, soothing, brushing teeth after the last feed. Put them in their own cribs drowsy, but awake. If you're tempted to go in when they protest, see tips on extinguishing these behaviors in a graded way on HealthyChildren.org. ...Read more

Sleep hygiene: Try a new routine at bedtime, maybe avoid afternoon naps a bit, make sure she is in a quiet dark room without interruptions or noise before bedtime. Maybe sit down and get her ready for bedtime by reading a story, to get her drowsy on the way to going to sleep. Be creative : perhaps just try to wear her down without too much excitement in the evening so she just wants to nod off ...Read more

How can I balance breastfeeding on demand and sleeping through the night?

How can I balance breastfeeding on demand and sleeping through the night?

Give it time: Newborns require frequent night time feedings, every 2-3 hours or risk hypoglycemia. Older infants will sleep through the night on their own and not demand feeding in a few months. Attempting to control this schedule ahead of time poses health risks to your baby, and interferes with your lactation establishment. Older infants who wake to nurse are likely nursing for comfort rather than need. ...Read more
