Neti pots can : Reduce nasal congestion. Mix ¼ tsp salt w 1 cup lukewarm water. More salt can also be used. Place solution in neti pot. Tilt head ; pour solution into 1 nostril. Antihistamines: Dust/pollens/allergens are trapped to the inside of your nose as you breath and there they can cause allergic symptoms..Thus cleaning them out will help reduce your symptoms. Start simple: First start with a pure antihistamine to see if allergy may be playing a role. Zyrtec, Claritin or alavert are otc and worth trying. If after a few days there is no improvement then try a decongestant as well. If after a few days you are still blocked you should see your family doctor for a prescription nasal spray either a steroid or an antihistamine. Stuuffy nose &ear: Stuffy nose and ear can be due to allergies, in that case it will be recurrent or chronic and you need antihistamines and decongestants and consult an allergist.If it is acute and due to common cold then it will be self limiting, but to be comfortable and feel a little better you may use decongestants for couple of days. ...Read more

Nasal spray: In my practice, with patients who have simple congestion, i recommend a decongestant nasal spray such as afrin. Two squirts into one nostril usually does the trick. If the congestion is more of an allergic response, i prescribe a Nasonex (mometasone) type of spray, which is a local steroid. Comedone Extractor: Wash face w gentle cleanser 2x/day ; use oil free products. No oily hair or heavy foundations. Exfoliate occasionally. Try not to pop pimples. Avoid touching face (cradling chin in hands). Remove makeup before bed. Shower after strenuous exercise. Consider otc products (salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide).
