What's the TSH level to maintain for 57+ female with Hypothyroidism, whose one & half of thyroid glands were removed for goiter surgery 15+ yr back ?

Don't base on TSH: I believe it is a mistake to base dosage on TSH alone; TSH is a surprisingly poor marker for tissue thyroid levels in many common conditions; one should assess Free T3 (liothyronine) and Free T4 and also take how the patient is feeling into account. Hello. : Hello. Clearly this is very troubling for you. I recommend that you get a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. That would include a metabolic work up. It sounds like you are having obsessive thoughts that your find upsetting. From what you describe you have had a marked change in your personality. Normal : Even outpatient surgery can put a lot of stress on the body. This sounds "normal", as everyone has slightly different responses to abdominal surgery with organ removal. You'll be fine, but if you think something is wrong, you can always call your surgeon. Be sure to keep your follow up appt. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Im hypothyroidism. On .025 levo. Does hypothyroidisn affect metabolism? Also hyperparathyroid. Mod.Severe. Surgery sug. How do I get metabolism up?

Uncertain: Hypothyroidism and hyperparathyroidism are two completely different disorders and generally are not connected to each other. You are on a very small dose of levothyroxine. If your thyroid levels are normal, your symptoms are likely unrelated. Hyperparathyroidism can cause fatigue, but treating it will not change your metabolism. Nevertheless, it should be treated surgically in your age group. ...Read more

I have hypothyroidism and found out i have hashi?!?my f T3 (liothyronine) is high despite missing tons of doses after tonsil surgery?!? What to do about hashi?!?

Hashimoto's: Hi. Hashimoto's is the vastly most common cause of hypothyroidism; surgical thyroidectomy is in distant second place. So treating hypothyroidism IS treating Hashimoto's in the vast majority of cases. Take your thyroid hormone replacement. We can't interpret a free T3 (liothyronine) alone; it's not useful in monitoring hypothyroidism, and we need concurrent TSH and free T4 to make sense of it. Good luck! ...Read more

I have hypothyroidism. gaining weight since meds. is gastric surgery possible? developed medical probs since. sleep apnea, hbp, borderline dm

Gastric surgery: Gastric surgery is always the last resort for weight loss, and a good surgeon and pt will have the understanding that all underlying medical conditions should be stable and well treated. A Cardiac evaluation, Pulmonary evaluation (including Sleep apnea eval in your case), psychiatry evaluation and a general Medical Clearance will be required before any surgery with most centers. Best wishes. ...Read more
