Possibly: Ovarian cysts are common and usually resolve without treatment. Removal may be considered if it persists, enlarges, twists, is painful, has a worrisome appearance, or is very bothersome. A 4.0 * 3.6 * 2.7 CM ovarian cyst is on m right ovary. How big is that? Can it be dangerous during pregnancy?

Quite common: It is quite common to have an ovarian cyst in pregnancy. Really the only way a cyst can be dangerous to your pregnancy is if it twists on itself (torsion) and requires surgical removal during the pregnancy. Most cysts that undergo torsion are significantly larger than yours. If you have no symptoms of pain, I would not worry at this time. If pain develops talk to you primary ob. ...Read more

Can a 5 CM ovarian cyst resolve itself?

Probably: If the cyst is simple and 5cm in size, then yes — good chance it may go away on its own. Larger than 7cm, and it is much less likely that it can resolve on its own. A follow-up sonogram in 6 weeks can tell if it is going away. ...Read more

Can a heating pad help shrink a 7.5 cm ovarian cyst? Any other remedies to naturally shrink an ovarian cyst? Also, can it shrink much within one week?

As a doctor, do you think I'm pregnant if I got a positive test but I have a 5 CM ovarian cyst, & no gestational sac on ultrasound??

As a doctor, do you think I'm pregnant if I got a positive test but I have a 5 CM ovarian cyst, & no gestational sac on ultrasound??

Yes: The pregnancy test detects human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), which is produced by the trophoblast, which later becomes the placenta. An ovarian cyst will not produce HCG. If you are 3 to 5 weeks, the gestational sac is easily missed. Your OB will address the possiblility of a tubal pregnancy, and can confirm that you are not having a miscarriage by documenting a rising HCG level or repeat US. ...Read more

I have 4-5 cm ovarian cyst causing nausea and low back pain. Dr wants to follow up in 6 weeks with ultrasound. Should I be concerned it is cancerous?

Unlikely: Lifetime risk of cancer is 1 in 60-90. Small odds. It usually strikes women after the age of 45. There are other findings on an ultrasound that can suggest if it's a benign or malignant looking cyst. If your gyn feels its safe to follow in 6 weeks, that's a normal approach.

My ovarian cyst is 5 cm and also showed white lines running across it. Is this info cause greater concern?

It Depends: The size is larger than what we like to see, but that alone isn't cause for great concern. Factors such as whether you still have periods, whether the cyst is painful and how, exactly, those white lines are described (within the cyst, on or around) would be needed to provide greater clarity. ...Read more

I have benign ovarian cyst 5.5x 8.5 cm, if it bursts or twists would it be a medical emergency? What could the consequences be?

Yes it would: We cannot prescribe or diagnose on Health Tap, but a ruptured or torsed (twisted) ovary at that size would indeed be a surgical emergency. If not addressed you could hemorrhage or lose the ovary. You need a live doctor to be managing this right now. ...Read more

I have a 5.9 cm simple ovarian cyst. I have no pain or symptoms. I was told if it grows it might need surgery? What is the danger if it grows?

Important: First, are you 47 years old? I mean no offense but 50% of ages given on HealthTap are untrue. If 47 is correct the risks are torsion (twisting) and rupture. Any cyst larger than 6 cm. is a significant risk for these, both of which require emergency surgery. AT age 47 the chance of cancer, while not terribly high, is still plausible. Hence, needs removal. Good wishes. ...Read more
