Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

If the effects of dental x ray radiation exposure is cumulative, does that mean all the x Rays damage I ever gotten stays there?

Yes: But as with any medicine it's risk vrs. benefit. A full set of diagnostic dental x-Rays is less radiation than spending a day in the sun. The health care community is very careful about the exposure you receive, taking only those films or digital films required to aid in your treatment. ...Read more

Dentists compare dental x-Ray radiation with radiation you get everyday. Problem is that dental radiation is concentrated to your head.........

No comparison: Dental x-rays do concentrate in the area the beam is pointed, that is true. However the damaging effects of radiation are cumulative. Spending a day at the beach will expose you to more radiation over a larger area of your body than having dental x-rays once a year. A lead apron with a thyroid collar is also used to protect your body when taking dental x-rays. As the cliche goes, apples to oranges ...Read more

Dental assistant took one xray for me but forgot to put a lead apron on me. She used hand held device. Is there a concern. Any chest radiation risk. ?

No worries: The dental X-rays use an insignificant amount of radiation. The average person is exposed to 3.2 mSv of environmental radiation each year. That means you would have to have about 700 sets of X-rays just to equal the level of natural exposure. ...Read more

As a child in the 80s,had a lot of dental fillings, etc. Was dental xray radiation high back then?Should I worry about risk of brain tumor from that?

Don't worry: You were probably exposed to more radiation when on vacation at the seashore or in the mountains than in the Dentist's office. Columnated beams, fast films, lead shielding, limited exposure, all were designed to protect you. There was very limited risk, and the trade-off was an exponential expansion of knowledge. No, Dental X-Rays didn't,t then, and do not now, cause brain tumors. ...Read more

What is radiation risk to brain from a panoramic or full-mouth series dental xray? Am concerned abt radiation exposure bcuz mom died of brain cancer.

Condolences: Sorry you lost your Mom. You get more radiation spending a day in the mountains than from one panoramic x-ray. Diagnostic x-rays don't cause cancer. Your mother's cancer is regrettable, but not from Dental surveys. And the diagnostic information provided is invaluable. ...Read more

Radiation dose chart: We only want to take the minimum number and type of x-rays or scans in order to properly diagnose and treatment plan. Without that we might either miss something or the final result might be compromised. Here is a good website for you to look at: http://www.Ans.Org/pi/resources/dosechart/. ...Read more
