Had a ganglion cyst removed from hand. Three stitches. When the stitches were removed, incision was still open. Is this normal? Skin didn't close?
Could be: Sometimes the deep layers heal faster than the top skin layer. As long as the deeper layers are closed, just keep the wound clean and covered. If the deep layers seem open, have your surgeon recheck the wound. ...Read more
Hi, when the doctor removes your suturing stitch of a wound on my hand, does it mean that the wound is closed? Infections can't get in throw the wound
Yes and no: When stitches are removed, it means the skin edges have come together nicely and the wound is healing. However, the healing is not complete and the newly formed skin and connections are quite immature so the wound is still predisposed to infections if not kept protected and clean. Your doc should have given you a post stitch removal wound care plan but generally a topical antibiotic will help. ...Read more

Small peripheral nerves distal to the cut, are not repairable. These branches result in a very small area of altered sensation that can change for the better over time. At other times the nerves are intact but "shocked" fracture? Make sure it stays clean and followup

I got the bone removed out of my pinky toe on thursday. I still have stitches but it doesn't hurt bad today. Can I go and play bingo for five hours?
Usually wait: You just had surgery. You need to keep the foot out of the public due to murphy's law. Besides keeping your foot down for 5 hours could cause swelling and pain and delay healing. That depends: On what work you do. If it has been 5 days and you are working in a clean environment, then keeping the sutured laceration "open to air" would be acceptable. If you are working in construction, around dirt, and generally in an unclean environment, then it would still be wise to keep it covered. Generally, on the hand, the sutures should be able to come out in anywhere from 7-10 days. Good luck. ...Read more
How long after getting stitches till I can get them wet? (i got 5 on my hand and I'm dying to wash my hand!)
Sutures and water: They can be wet within hours of having the sutures placed. As long as the water is clean - ie washing or showering or swimming pools should be fine. Swimming in the ocean or rivers/lakes - probably not ok. As far as specifics for your issue - it should be safe - just "pat" dry. And avoid rubbing. ...Read more

It depends: Not all dog bites need stitches. In fact, closing any type of bite wound can often be a problem as infection may be more likely. The first priority is assessing any deep injury (nerve, tendon or bone) by examination. If there is no deep injury to treat, then good primary wound care with thorough cleaning, tetanus immunization and preventative antibiotics are indicated. ...Read more

Should my boyfriend have a deep wound- hole like need immediate medical attention? My boyfriend cut his hand with a scraper-like tool at work yesterday and I am afraid his cut might need stitches, however, we do not have any medical insurance and therefor
Oh my. It sounds like he has two separate injuries. The first issue is that he cut his hand deeply enough that you are concerned that he might need stiches. Usually, sutures are placed within 12 hours of an injury due to concerns about possible infection. Cuts to the hand can be quite serious, because of the way the hand is compartmentalized. An infection can spread quickly in the hand and cause loss of function.
The second injury is a deep arm puncture wound contaminated by battery acid. You have done what is termed bathroom surgery to cut away blacked skin but could only debride to a certain level.
His tetanus status is unknown.
Signs of infection include: redness, swelling, drainage, red streaks, fever, warmth. Your boyfriend has two high risk injuries and uknown tetanus status. I really think that he needs medical attention. If he doesn't get evaluated and develops serious complications the cost physically and financially could be much greater. ...Read more

You: You need to go to the doctor. If the area around your cut is now swollen, you are in pain and wound is gapping - it is likely that you do have an infection.
