My 4 yr son vomitted two hours after taking azithromycin (Laz 200). Will it affect the effectiveness of the medicne? Should I give him another doze?

Dose is in: As long as he kept the dose down for 15 minutes after ingestion, we consider the dose fully in. So no need to re-do the dose. Good luck wit his illness... ...Read more

Azithromycin (Definition)

Azithromycin (zithromax, azithrocin, zmax, azin)[1] is an azalide, a subclass of macrolide antibiotics. Azithromycin is one of the world's best-selling antibiotics.[2][not in citation given (see discussion.)] it is derived from erythromycin, with a methyl-substituted nitrogen atom incorporated into the lactone ring, thus making ...Read more

If I vomit 2 hours after taking azithromycin do I need to take another dose?

No need: Azithromycin does this from time to time, usually when a single large dose is used for some infections, and the effect of early vomiting has been studied. That research shows that as long as the drug is retained at least 30 minutes before vomiting, enough is absorbed and retained to do the job. However, you should be retested in a few weeks to make sure you were cured. Good luck! ...Read more

Can I drink milk or have ice cream several hours after taking Azithromycin?

Can I drink milk or have ice cream several hours after taking Azithromycin?

Ideally you should..: Wait 2 hrs before ingesting food. This is because food may reduce the bioavailability (availability of the antibiotic in the body) and therefore make it less effective. If around 2 hrs have passed it's okay to have food. If you ate a little sooner than 2 hrs, don't worry - it probably won't make a HUGE difference (so don't take an extra pill!). Hope you get well soon! ...Read more

I threw up an hour after taking azithromycin. Will it still work. It's the ones for chlamydia?

It depends: If you threw up the medication, it may not have had time to be digested and systemically absorbed to be actively treating your infection. Get re-tested to be safe and you may need re-treating, assure your sexual partner has been treated too, or you will get re-infected. ...Read more

I threw up an hour after taking azithromycin. Will it still work. It's the ones for chlamydia?

Nausea: The most common side effect of Azithromycin is nausea and vomiting. If you vomit after one hour it's likely that you didn't absorb the dose and need a different type of antibiotic. ...Read more

If I drink a couple if beers four hours after taking azithromycin single dose will it fail to cure chlamydia?

If I drink a couple if beers four hours after taking azithromycin single dose will it fail to cure chlamydia?

Not recommended: Antibiotics and combined Alcohol use are never recommended as the Z pak (azithromycin) is likely not going to be as effective for chlamydia use.

My rationale is that Z pak (azithromycin) is metabolized in the liver by Cytochrome p450 and Alcohol increases this same enzyme that degrades a Z pak (azithromycin).

An hour later after taking azithromycin, I threw up and had diarrhea...Does that mean I have to take the dose again? And I ate after the medicine.

Probably: Food in the stomach usually site there for 1-2 hours prior to entry into the rest of the GI tract. This means there is a good likelihood that you expelled the azithromicin. There is no harm in having a little extra in your system so given what you describe and that you can now eat, take an extra pill. ...Read more

I took azithromycin for Chlymdia today and 2 hours later I had protected sex with my boyfriend will that have done any foul?

Possibly...: Condoms are not 100% effective at preventing the spread of STDs. Your boyfriend should be checked out by a doctor. You can also ask the provider you saw to give you a script for your partner, depending on state laws he may not need to be seen. ...Read more

I'm on azithromycin 250 mg is it okay if I drink tonight. I took the day three pill an hour or so ago and am not going out for another 8 hours.?

Probably OK: Alcohol generally does not interfere with any antibiotic. Azithromycin can irritate the GI tract, with abdominal pain, nausea, etc, and so can alcohol -- so the two together could be uncomfortable. Probably best to not take them together, at least a couple hours apart. Otherwise no worries if it doesn't bother your stomach. ...Read more

THEORETICALLY please tell me, With a half life of 4 hours and 60mg 3 times a day, how long could I withhold diltiazem As to take Azithromycin safely?

THEORETICALLY please tell me, With a half life of 4 hours and 60mg 3 times a day, how long could I withhold diltiazem As to take Azithromycin safely?

As Seen On TV???: Theoretically, the drug is 99% out of your body after five half lives (in this case 20 hours). The half life of azithromycin is a lot longer (36 hours; that's why you only take it once a day). you'd have to fiddle with the diltiazem dose or choose another antibiotic. "You" meaning the doctor. Don't do this at home. Dangerous. And for just about anything there is an alternative to azithromycin. ...Read more

Will azithromycin still work if you were to have diarrohea or vomit about 3 hours after taking the dose?

Yes: Diarrhea would not affect its absorption. The stomache will empty in 1-2 hours so vomitting 3 hours after taking pills will not affect their absorption. ...Read more

I vomited a tad bit after an hour and a half of taking azithromycin and had diarrhea 40 minutes of taking it. Will this decrease its effectiveness

Shouldn't: Transit time through the stomach is variable but the antibiotic should have made it through in 30-45 minutes, especially if you didn't take it with food. ...Read more

I'm on z pak (azithromycin) for strep. On the 1st day I threw up an hour after taking my dosage. Did I lose that dosage? I'm on my 3rd day, and still don't feel great

I'm on z pak (azithromycin) for strep. On the 1st day I threw up an hour after taking my dosage. Did I lose that dosage? I'm on my 3rd day, and still don't feel great

Strep throat?: The purpose of antibiotics for streptococcal infections of the throat is not to reduce symptoms (they will seldom alter the normal course of illness), but rather to prevent post-streptococcal complications like acute rheumatic fever. Don't know how the diagnosis was made, but sometimes viral infections can be confused with strep and vice-versa. ...Read more

Is it bad to take azithromycin with 5 hour energy drinks?

5 Hour Energy: It is my opinion that one should not use 5 hour energy drinks at all because of potential for adverse effects on blood pressure and the heart. Azithromycin is subject to degradation when exposed to an acid environment. 5 hour energy will increase the acidic level of the stomach and could inactivate part of the dose of azithromycin. ...Read more

If I vomit 4 hours after azithromycin do I need to take another dose?

How many days would it usually take for rales to disappear in pneumonia if fever has subsided 24 hours after start of azithromycin?

Rales: This is a physical manifestation of inflammation within the lung tissues, causing either fluid to accumulate in the microscopic air spaces (alveolae) or for there to be stickiness so the walls of the alveolae pop as they are forced open. These changes may persist for some time (variable & dependent upon the organisms and the host) after the bacteria have been eliminated by antibiotics and WBCs. ...Read more
