Some thoughts: Without an actual examination, I cannot give specific medical advice on your particular health, and overactive thyroid due to irritation (or even rarely Tumor) of the thyroid can certainly increase metabolism. As long as there is no pain, this is natural (to an extent) so to keep these areas from loosing blood flow (cold can do this) and thus decreasing oxygen to the tissues, where, if without, tissues metabolism slows and if it stops, tissues can die.
