Hot Shower And Blood Pressure
Blood pressure is a measurement of the force placed on the blood vessels and is comprised of the "systolic" pressure (the top number on a blood pressure meter) which is the peak pressure when the heart is pumping, and the "diastolic" pressure (the bottom number on a blood pressure meter) which is the pressure during the resting phase ...Read more
High BP & shivering.: Shivering is a manifestation of over activation of the sympathetic nervous system which, among other things, can raise your blood pressure while you're shivering. Not certain: Great question. My thought is that it would increase BP because hyperventilation causes low co2 ; is a vasodilator leading to fainting. With breath holding, co2 rises and, i assume, would have the opposite effect-vasoconstriction. In addition, there is discomfort with prolonged breath holding and discomfort always causes BP to rise. (however, if breathing stops permanently, BP will surely fall). ...Read more
Can high blood pressure and prednisone cause spitting up little amount of blood thats sometimes barley visible and lightheadedness?
Bronchiectasis?: The most common cause of hemoptysis (coughing up blood) is bronchiectasis. Why are you on prednisone? Asthma? You need a chest x-ray or ct scan of the chest to rule out anything worse. The light-headedness can be simply from the coughing, a strong vagal nerve stimulus, lowering both heart rate and bp. See a pulmonologist (lung specialist). ...Read more
yes: Try this little experiment: measure your bp. Now stick your hands in a vat of ice water and hold them there for 10 minutes. Now check your BP again. Voila! (this is called the "cold-pressor" reaction). (aside: it works if you stick your face in the water too!). ...Read more
My resting blood pressure is in the 70s and pulse in the 50s, and my blood pressure and pulse very orthostatic. Should I seek medical attention?
Age:Only if symptoms: What do u mean by blood pressure (BP) & pulse are "very orthostatic"? Orthostasis is a symptom, not a sign. If you're having symptoms orthostasis (fainting, dizzy spells, weakness / fatigue, passing out), then certainly you should be under a doctor's care. If you're concerned about why your BP/pulse numbers are low in the absence of symptoms, u can TTYD for testing. It may negative, given your age ...Read more

Does sitting in a hot steam room for 10 minutes lower or raise my blood pressure? I heard it lowers BP but wasn't sure why. Thank you.
Typically lower: Something that happens in the steam room is the skin blood vessels dilate (open) which decreases the blood pumping in the main circulation thus lowering bp. Also sweating can cause water and salt loss which can also lower bp. If the steamroom "stresses" you however this can increase bp. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Don't think so...: "swelling up" as in the fingers, hands, feet, and lower legs becoming fuller in hot weather is usually due to more blood flow to the hands and feet. This is called vasodilation, and occurs when a person is hot. His body sends more blood flow to his skin (including the hands and feet) because that helps cool his body down. It is not considered a sign of high blood pressure. ...Read more

No: The blood pressure may have gone up if the hot sauce was really hot but hypertension is a diagnosis over time and is not diagnosed on an acute event. If there is a concern, see if you can take blood pressures over a few weeks with a bought or borrowed cuff and if consistently over 140 on the top number or 90 on the bottom number, see a pcp and get checked out! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I get really hot and sweat drips off my face , my arms and face turn red can this be caused by my blood pressure of medication i take ?
No: The only med you list for BP is Aldactone and that wouldn't cause it. An overdose of synthroid (thyroxine) could - has your TSH been checked (blood sample). Most likely, it's physiologic (normal response to overheating).
