Hormone Related Acne
A hormone (from greek ὁρμή, "impetus") is a chemical released by a cell or a gland in one part of the body that sends out messages that affect cells in other parts of the organism. Only a little amount of hormone is required to alter cell metabolism. In essence, it is a chemical messenger that transports a signal from ...Read more
Testosterone and dhe: Acne can be seen in men of all ages due to hormonal fluctuations. Improving the acne is good skin care, improving your diet (eat low glycemic, more fruits and veggies rather than refined foods, decreasing dairy) and the use of peels or lasers depending on how severe it is. You have Accutane as an option but only for severe acne. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Can hormone fluctuations cause ovarian cancer? Can wild hormone fluctuations due to PMS or birth control pills cause ovarian cancer?
Irregular periods, oligomenorrhea, no hirsutism, acne, normal hormone profile. What could be the cause?
Ovulatory disorder: You probably do not have pcos but with irregular periods you have some form of ovulatory dysfunction; probably hypothalamic pituitary dysfunction. With a normal hormone profile you do not have anything to worry about but i will be harder to get pregnant and probably will need fertility medications to induce regular ovulatory cycling. ...Read more
What autoimmune disease causes hyperandrogenic symptom like irreg cycles, hirsutism, acne, hair loss, cushing is ruled out, mpv high, hormones normal?
Yes: Testosterone is broken down into Dht & Estradiol (e2). Too much Dht is associated w/hair loss & prostate enlargement. Too much e2 is associated w/gynecomastia, eg nipple sensitivity and/or male breast development (moobs). Different medications can stop metabolism of t but can also upset balance (think of a seesaw). So if Dht goes down, e2 might go up. And vice versa. Talk to doc & monitor levels. ...Read more
Yes: If a woman has much acne, it is likely to be due to extra androgens, especially if her periods are not quite normal; this is very common and your family physician or gynecologist has already considered it. A man's acne is usually just from him having plenty of testosterone, which is a good thing; acne is easy to treat with real medications. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Why hyperthyroid can cause gynecomastia? What's the connection thyroid hormone and estrogen, testosterone?
Complex interaction: Gynecomastia can occur in hyperthyroidism due to an induced increase in peripheral aromatase activity leading to an increase in circulating estrogen levels, and thus decreased testosterone levels. Most of the estrogen in men is made from the peripheral conversion of testosterone and other androgens to estrogens. Other mechanisms are probably at play as well. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have PCOS. Estrogen is very low, high androgen. GYN not treating hormone levels. Joint problems, hirtuism. should hormones be regulated?
PCOS: It sounds plausible you may have PCOS if you have had hormone testing, BUT in most PCOS the estrogen is high, not low as you describe. There are other causes of elevated androgens that should be tested. If another problem is found, or if PCOS is confirmed then treatment should be given. Seek a second opinion. ...Read more
What uncommon hormonal disorders (besides acromegaly & pituitary tumors) cause growth hormone overproduction? Do they add height in those over 30?
Developed adult acne related to hormone replacement. Testosterone estrogen levels low. Use clindamycin 1% and not helping. What can I use?
Ideas: 1st of all-your hormone levels may not b checked accurately. Blood levels don't work for topicals. Sounds like u need hormones adjusted. If that doesn't help sometimes a course of antibiotics (doxycycline or Minocycline ) can help treat acne. It really sounds like you are getting too much hormone. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
