Hormone Iud Mirena
Not recommended: No, because it has no other chemicals like copper, hormones, etc, it will not really work to prevent fertilization. More worrisome, if fertilization and implantation occurs, the risk of an ectopic pregnancy is high. And, if a normal uterine pregnancy occurs, the iud will need to be removed and it is highly likely to cause an abortion. ...Read more
A hormone (from greek ὁρμή, "impetus") is a chemical released by a cell or a gland in one part of the body that sends out messages that affect cells in other parts of the organism. Only a little amount of hormone is required to alter cell metabolism. In essence, it is a chemical messenger that transports a signal from ...Read more

Does cannibus or THC affect the hormones in the mirena (levonorgestrel) iud? Does marijuana or THC affect the mirena (levonorgestrel) iud?
Shouldn't: It should not affect the hormones within the iud, and it doesn't decrease the effectiveness of the iud. ...Read more
Can Mirena (levonorgestrel) or other hormones make seborrheic dermatitis of the hairline worse? It has gotten worse within last 3mo, IUD since 8mo
Hey there! What is a good herb/s to regulate hormones and induce period? I have just switched to Paraguard IUD, after being on DEPO and Mirena for 10.
Chaste Tree, ec: Chaste Tree is used to regulate periods. Calendula, WHite Paenia, and Ladies Mantle are used to modulate heavy and painful periods. Pasque Flower and Shatavari are used to dampen spasmodic and inflammatory pain. ...Read more
I heard mirena (levonorgestrel) was recalled. Is there some similar birth control with the IUD and the hormones? I'm tired of taking pills and want extra protection.
Still Available: I just talked to the rep today & there is no recall. Mirena (levonorgestrel) is an iud with Progesterone benefits to the uterus, meaning less bleeding & effective birth control. Alternatives are the Nexplanon (subdermal implant) which lasts 3 years and also offers cycle control & effective contraception. Take care. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Natural mood boosting suppliment that doesn't mess with birth control. Will a daily ginseng suppliment reduce effectiveness of the mirena (levonorgestrel) iud? What is a non-prescription mood booster that wont mess with the hormone in my iud?
Coworker says her hormones are really strong, so women sync to her cycle. I have a Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD/don't get my period, but now I get bloating/headaches + mood swings at the same time. Are they connected?
No, not medically!: Most of your symptoms are attributable to the hormone levonorgestrel (a synthetic progesterone) in your Mirena IUD. Now, if your co-worker is particularly difficult to work with, she may be contributing to your headaches & mood swings, but this notion that her hormones are so strong that other women sync to her cycle is incorrect. ...Read more
Can rapid weight loss cause a hormone change. Recently had a period with the mirena IUD in place. No previous periods. The rapid weight loss was related to gastric sleeve surgery 6 weeks ago. This is the second mirena IUD and this would be the first time
Can there be a way to guess how likely mirena (levonorgestrel) (hormonal iud) would stop period for me?
Not reliably: In general, the Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud will stop periods for 25% (up to 50% ) of users, but it's hard to predict who will be the lucky ones whose periods stop. I have had patients use 'continuous' birth control pills for a couple of months with their iud, in an attempt to stop the periods from coming, with some success, but it doesn't always work. ...Read more
Mirena (levonorgestrel) was put in 6 years ago for very heavy periods. Not needed for birth control bc I had tubes tied. Now I have hormonal acne. Is the IUD to blame?
What effects, if any, do antibiotics have on hormones in the mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD ? Does it reduce effectiveness similar to that of oral bcps ?
Likely no effect.: Few, if any, of the commonly used antibiotics will have any affect on bcp efficacy. However, there are some antibiotics (used primarily to treat tuberculosis - tb) that can decrease the effectiveness of bcp's. It is not likely that any of those antibiotics (even those used to treat tb) would have any impact on the efficacy of the Mirena (levonorgestrel) or any of the other progestin only contraceptives (the shot). ...Read more
