Hordeolum (Overview)

This is an inflammation of a gland in the lid, analogous to a pimple, in which stagnated secretion becomes infected and sets up a focal inflammation. It is a fancy term for what most commonly call a stye.

Prevention of styes: Prevention can be done with scrubs of your lash line twice a week. Take a dilute solution of tears-free baby shampoo (diluted in warm water) and then soak a Q-tip in the solution. Scrub your lash line with the solution, changing Q-tips frequently.
