Can manuka honey be used as a sinus rinse for both bacterial and fungal sinusitis?

Can manuka honey be used as a sinus rinse for both bacterial and fungal sinusitis?

Little research: It is difficult to answer this with certainty as this is an alternative treatment that has not been well studied. In theory it should be helpful for bacterial infections, as manuka honey has been used topically to treat skin infections. I have found a few studies to support its use for sinusitis, both for bacteria and fungi, but no large scale studies. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21518647. ...Read more

Tobradex (tobramycin and dexamethasone) Ophthalmic Ointment given for eye rednes, swelling, oozing yellow,drynes-no bacterial infection found in skin scraping-why then give antibiotic?

Culture ?: Tobradex (tobramycin and dexamethasone) is a good treatment for severe redness caused by bacterial conjunctivitis, especially those caused by gram negative bacteria. If an eye scraping is done with culture and no bacteria are cultured, the irritation may be due to viral or allergic issues, that could be complicated by bacterial superinfection. Tobradex (tobramycin and dexamethasone) is a good 1st line, followed by specific therapy based on sensitivities ...Read more

Eye Problem, Accidentally have been using antibiotic tobramycin "pink eye" drops for general dry/allergy eye issues - Can this hurt my eyes?

Unlikely: It is unlikely that the drops you put in your eye will lead to any problem, as it is meant for the eye. It certainly won't help your allergy symptoms, but it shouldn't cause any harm. The most common side effects of Gentamicin eye drops are stinging, burning, redness or temporary blurred vision. ...Read more

R honey and water drops harmful for eyes?

NO: If correctly mixed it is not harmful. 1 drop of honey to 5 drops of water a 20% honey mix has been shown in some studies to help dry eyes. Multiple non-peer review articles say it helps. I like to see a peer reviewed article. Many of my patients use the 20% honey mix and I have not seen any side effects. But claims of brighter looking eyes or lighter color eyes with honey use is false. ...Read more

Any natural treatment for pink eye? I have been using refresh eye drops.

Any natural treatment for pink eye? I have been using refresh eye drops.

"Pink : "pink eye" is a generic term used for viral infections of the eye. Typically it is self-limiting but highly contagious. In the most common presentation if left untreated it will resolve by itself. So as far as natural treatments for pink eye, i would only recommend artificial tears or saline solution to rinse or debulk the viral load. However, if the condition worsens then it is best to discontinue all drops and seek the advise of your doctor. You never want to miss a possible bacterial infection that would require antibiotics! ...Read more

Depends: Bacterial infections are bad. When they get into the brain, blood etc. It can be very bad.The problem is that in newborns you don't always see the signs that something bad is going on like you would see in someone older, so you don't always know whether a newborn is very sick or a little sick, so we wind up treating sick newborns as if they have something life threatening until we know they don't. ...Read more
