Often,: Often, a series of hot compresses during the day will work, with shorter duration for each compress. Many of my patients have success with 3 or 4 compresses, 5-10 minutes each session. The potato works well, some patients have mentioned that they have used a hard-boiled egg the same way. This holds heat longer than using a washcloth alone. If this does not work within a week or so, then eye drops, or surgical removal will be successful. See your eye doctor if compresses fail!

My 2 year old son has a stye on his upper eye lid. Is there an easy-to-use treatment?

Topical heat: Take a wash cloth, and run it under the warm water tap. Apply it to your eye (if you cannot stand it, wait until it cools a little). Then put it on your son's eye for 3 minutes and do this 5 times per day. This will usually cause the stye to melt away or open and discharge. If still present more than 3-4 days, or worsening, see your pediatric ophthalmologist.

Warm: Warm commpresses and lid massage can help, but the use of a tetracycline antibiotic can sometimes help as well--talk to your ophthamologist about this. If you do need to have it excised, your doctor will completely numb it first and it is usually done from the inner side of the lid--you should not feel a thing and there will be no visible scar.

Use heat: Neosporin will have little or no effect. The best first treatment is to apply very warm soaks five to six times per day for 5 minutes each application. This should get rid of it in 2-4 days, if it persists longer than that, see your ophthalmologist.

What to do if I have eye stye. My doctor told me that I can use neosporin for a treatment. Which neosporin is she talking about?

Eye drops: I would suggest using warm moist compresses and an antibiotic eye drop such as neosporin. Stand at the sink, get a washcloth good and warm and place it right on the affected area. When it cools, re-warm it. Use the heat for 3-5minutes. Follow this with a drop of the antibiotic. Do it four times a day. If it does not resolve the problem you should see an ophthalmologist. Good luck.

Two different issues: You have two separate issues here. If you still have symptoms after your treatment return to doctor and make sure the doctor knows also have the doctor address the eye cyst. Was your urine checked? Sounds like you need to be ready evaluated

What are some home remedies for a stye in the eye?

Heat: Apply heat to the eyelid and wash it with an eyelid cleaner. There are several available commercially, but dilute baby shampoo will also work. Heat a wet wash cloth in the microwave for a short time (15 sec) and if not too hot (you do not want to damage your skin and the skin on the eyelids is very thin) apply to the sty. The clean it with lid scrubs. Some of these need antibiotics.

Warm compresses: A stye is a swelling of one of the small oil glands on the edge of your eyelids. A stye causes redness, swelling and tenderness of the lid margin. The best initial treatment is warm compresse to to the lid margin for about 5 minutes 4 times per day.
