See doctor: You may need to consult a rheumatologist if you suffer from joint symptoms. For psoriasis involving mainly the skin, a dermatologist would be your best bet. Exfoliation: Often times the skin on the elbows becomes darker because it's thicker and dry. Using a physical exfoliant (something with a microbead) along with a chemical exfoliant (like a glycolic or lactic acid) can help to remove the thick, dry skin. Using a good emollient cream can also help with the dry skin. I like AmLactin as a good over the counter lactic acid lotion. ...Read more

There is always: Something new. To find cutting edge medicine, contact an academic medical center. They usually have trials with the latest medications. Here, in new york, I had 2 patients go for psoriasis. Both with bad cases, both were entered into trials and both are very happy with their treatments. There are no lab tests or blood tests available to confirm or deny the presence of psoriasis.

I have psoriasis on my elbows, etc. But I've been dealing with a red irritated dry flaky and itchy face. Been using witchhazel & caster oil. What 2do?
Varies on severity: Small patches may respond well to various potencies of steroid cream, vit. D-like drugs, or vit a-derived meds. Larger areas of involvement may require immunosuppressant therapy like Methotrexate or new immune-modulator drugs like infliximab, etanercept, etc. The latter drugs have many side effects and precautions; so you should be under the care of a specialist in those. ...Read more

Mild Psoriasis sufferer, chronic pain right forarm & elbow. Blood tests 80 titre ana, positive anticentromere. Psoriatic arthritis or scleroderma?
Occam's Razor: The simplest explanation is most the likely one. Usually Systemic Sclerosis and/or limited Scleroderma is not characterized by arthritis like you describe. The typical biomarker is anti Scl-70 (anti-topoisomerase). Symptoms have to be put into a broader context and be characterized beyond elbow and forearm pain. This one you should see a rheumatologist about. Dermatology would be useful as well. ...Read more

A discussion of eczema can be found elsewhere. ...Read more

Simple hives: Agree. Simple hives can last weeks, months, years. Unfortunately by 3 weeks causes become difficult to know. Often immunologic hives from a virus go for a few weeks.
