You : You can treat most vaginal yeast infections with an over-the-counter vaginal cream or suppository available at most large drugstores. They come in one-day, three-day, and seven-day strengths. Many of the over-the-counter vaginal creams have the same ingredients as a prescription strenght but less concentrated. Some common brands are: Gyne-Lotrimin or Mycelex (clotrimazole), gynezol or femstat (butoconazole), monistat (miconazole nitrate), vagistat-1 (tioconazole), and large pharmacy brands (generics) are also available and equally effective. Please, read all package directions carefully before using any vaginal cream to treat a yeast infection, to make sure your are not treating the wrong condition or get hurt. Probably not: There are a lot of "old wives tales tales" about how to take care of this problem & you should not listen to them. Considering your health and the health of your unborn child the best physician to give you the answer to your question is your OB/GYN. ...Read more

Is there a home remedy for treating a vaginal bacterial infection? My doctor said it's not servere enough to prescribe medicine for at the moment.
BV treatment: This usually means bacterial vaginosis, an overgrowth of mostly normal bacteria. I don't understand "not severe enough to treat". If BV is noticeable and bothering you, it should be treated (you're in charge, not doc!). Discuss again with your doctor or get a second opinion. There are only prescriptions, no proved self treatments. Most imporant, do not douche, will make it worse and maybe harmful. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Monistat 500 for 7 days prescribed for yeast. Severe itching & even cramps (like menstral pain) when i used it. How can i relieve side effects?
Stop it!: If you get worse when taking a medicine, you may have a problem with the medicine as well as the disease. Stop it for now and talk to or see your doc to see if you should continue it or use something else. If you take diphenhydramine and it stops the itching, there's a good chance that you are allergic to the medicine. ...Read more
Used monostat 1 to treat a yeast infection, i woke up a couple hours later with severe external an internal vaginal itching. Need relief , what now?
Remove monistat 1st: You may be having an allergic reaction to the medication or you may not have a yeast infection. Usually I do not recommend douching, but in your case a vinegar based douche such as summer's eve will help remove the medication. Also, wash the vulva with a mild, hypoallergenic soap and pat dry with a towel. You may need to see your ob/gyn who may prescribe oral Diflucan (fluconazole) and a steroid ointment. ...Read more
