Infections are invasions of some other organism (fungus, bacteria, parasite) or viruses into places where they do not belong. For instance, we have normal gut bacteria that live within us without causing problems; however, when those penetrate the bowel wall and enter the bloodstream, ...Read more
Possibly...: It is difficult to make a proper diagnosis since I am not there to see the condition. I recommend seeing a dermatologist so that they can make a proper diagnosis and give you something to get rid of the condition or relieve symptoms.
Antibiotic: There are a couple antibiotic ointments your doctor can prescribe. You put them in your nose with a q-tip.
Septal piercing: DON'T DO IT. It isn't worth it. It puts you at risk for infections and discomfort.
Treated my facial staph infection in October, and its back already in January. I'm heartbroken, will I have ongoing facial staph infections recur for the rest of my life? I decolonized my nose with bactroban, but its back. Can it ever be treated fully?
Get it treated and?: It is not that common to have recurrent ataph infections of the face. Recurrence occurs in people Who have weak immune system People who have eczema People who have diabetes Those who are chronic carrieirs of staph in their nose I suggest you treat the present infection and discuss with your doctor to test you for Diabetse and immune system if it keeps recurring Do you pick on your face constsnt?
I kissed my boyfriend on the lips today at lunch and he now thinks the "zit" he had under his nose is a staph infection. Ugh! Will I get it?!?!
Maybe: Be aware that staph germs are everywhere in the environment. This contact may have exposed you to staph, but you also touched a doorknob or banister or open surface that likely had it too. If you wash your hands on a regular basis then you cut down on some of your exposures. However, every time you touch your face with contaminated fingers you expose yourself as much as that kiss.See 1 more doctor answer
I've pus like sores at the corner and in my nose. Doc say its herpes brought on by stress this ocurr times before but could it be staph infection?
HSV or Staph: Sometimes it is hard to tell if it is hsv or staph, and sometimes it can be both--hsv lesions can get secondarily infected with staph. A simple swab culture could find the staph and a topical antibiotic like bactroban (mupirocin) can usually fix it. Hsv certainly can be triggered by stress.
I've pus like sores at the corner and in my nose. Doc say its herpes brought on by stress this ocurr times before but could it be staph infection.
Probably right.: Your doctor is probably right -- those are the two principal possibilities. A couple of cultures (one bacterial and one viral) will answer the question and indicate the proper treatment.
I've pus like sores at the corner and in my nose. Doc say its herpes brought on by stress this ocurr times before but could it be staph infection.?
Probably not: When you hear hoof beats in the distance, it is probably a horse coming your way. It might be an antelope, or a zebra, but probably not. Herpes outbreaks in and around the nose are common can appear exactly as your described. Staph, though possible, is less common. I would trust your md, but if it persists beyond 2 weeks or gets more complex, no one is offended by a second opinion or further tests.
Can staph infection be confused with hsv2 on a lab test? I have recently been contracting what the doctors say are "boils", in my pelvic area, buttocks, under my arms and even on my nose in some instances. They say it's a form of stapholycoccus and treat
The: The short answer here is you need to be tested for herpes. In addition, if you get a "boil" have a herpes culture done on the actual lesion. As far as your boyfriend is concerned, he may have tested positive for hsv 2, however it is possible that he never had a lesion before. He was likely exposed to it at some point in his life. Take care.
Diagnosed with staph infection, doctor suspects its from overactive colony in my nose that was reacting with small cuts from shaving and from acne in the area. Scared this means my immune system isn't strong. Can healthy people get staph from nose?
Common: This is common in healthy persons. Staphylococci bacteria reside in the nostrils and is spread to different parts of the body. So this is not abnormal. The fact that u have a staph skin infection does not make u have low immunity. Staph can take advantage of any break in the skin to cause an infection. Just keeping wounds clean and dry usually suffices. It may be worrisome only if recurrent.
Please clarify: Please let us know what type of information we can provide you with. What is the treatment plan that the doctor has offered you?
I am pretty much 100 percent sure that I have Staph infection and would like second opinion and get on treatment asap?
Staph infection: I assume you talking about treatment of skin and soft tissue due to MRSA. It depends on how severe the infection is. With small skin abscess I& D is enough. If it is a big boil then it needs I&D and oral antibiotics. In case the infection is more extensive then IV antibiotics must be used. Choice of antibiotics depends on local resistance, labs and culture results and preference of the physician.
I wanted to know if my staph infection is showing some type of improvement on my face. I have been going to emurgent care for treatment.
Need an exam: It would be difficult to take the responsibility of giving you advice without knowing the details of your illness and examining your face. If you have doubts about wether or not your infection is improving you best see a physician. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.See 1 more doctor answer
Very low risk: Staph infection of nose likely due to colonization of staph bacteria in skin, so there is a chance tattoo procedure can cause exposure of the bacteria to blood resulting dissemination of bacteria through blood to different organ. However, that is very rare. Probably you can have tattoo if you accept low risk. Alerternately, you can decolonize the infection with antibiotic soap
Nothing special: The presence of staph on a nasal swab means only that you are carrying a strain in the lush mucoid environment where it can thrive. It doesn't do well on the dry skin surface for long periods of time. With it in your nose you could spread it to bug bits by scratching with contaminated fingers, or to door handles or other objects. Since most have no symptoms, nasal carriage allows it to spread.
No, with exceptions: Typically it is necessary to be treated with antibiotics if a staph infection occurs. However, exceptions include 1) a small abscess that can be easily and completely drained, and 2) an infection that is completely removed from the body such ad an amputation of an infected toe, with only healthy tissue remaining.See 1 more doctor answer
