Dandruff: Dandruff, or seborrheic dermatitis, is a common disorder that is believed to be caused by a yeast. Most treatments are geared at reducing the yeast. Such treatments include nizoral, (ketoconazole) head and shoulders, and selsun blue. Tar shampoos and corticosteroids can be used as well. This condition rarely results in hair loss.
I have dandruff and a dry scalp that bleeds from scabs, do you have any solutions? Also I have dry skin around my hairline? Please help thanks
Try hydrocortisone: This sounds like you have what is called "seborrheic dermatitis". What a big word for something so common! It is in the eczema family. Shampoo with t-gel. Try over the counter Hydrocortisone cream, rub in for 30 seconds 2 times each day whenever the rash is present. There is no cure for this, it will almost always come back. Don't get discouraged, just keep the Hydrocortisone handy.
Suspect Dandruff!: Scalp dryness and flakes are an indication of dandruff. You may benefit from using a shampoo with Salsun -Blue (Sulphur containing) and use a good conditioner after a good shampoo rub. It should settle down in 2-3 weeks of daily use. If it comes back or if it does not go away, you may have to see a dermatologist who can prescribe Coal tar based shampoos which may work better.
Itchy scalp: Lavender oil, eucalyptus oil, avocado oil and german chamomile oil are excellent natural home remedies for itchy scalp. Mix these oils in equal proportions and, add some water and finally apply the resultant mixture to heal itchy scalp in a natural way.
Flaky itchy scalp: Most likely this is related to seborrheic dermatitis and one of the dandruff shampoos may help. There are a number of them with different active ingredients so you may have to try several different ones to see what is best for you. Some are: neutragena tgel, tsal; sebulex, head and shoulders, etc. Shampoo daily. If it doesn't work see your dermatologist for medication to put on your scalp.
Always have had an extremely dry scalp since a baby. Can you suggest a scalp treatment that will stop the dryness and flakes?
I have anxious habit to play in hair. Dry scalp, trying to quit. Picked dandruff, scab. Picked at scab & feels moist, what's that moistness?
Manage it: You won't be able to stop, so don't be hard on yourself. Some folks are wired to do this kind of thing with scalp lesions. What you can do is manage any dandruff / seborrheic dermatitis aggressively; perhaps ketoconazole would be right for you in addition to a good dandruff shampoo, and you can ask your physician about coal tar, sulfur, selenium, and/or a bit of a glucocorticoid.
Experiencing some scalp redness or irritation, scalp tenderness to touch and felt like sunburn on top of head. Few small red `spots' seen at top of head. Dr says dry scalp. Washed hair daily, used hair spray frequently. Stopped routine. Treatment?
Dry hair: Shampoos are more drying than soap as they remove more hair oils. If you use shampoos it's important to follow with a hair conditioner to restore oils for your hair and scalp. A skilled beautician can evaluate your hair and advise you about its status and give you advice on your hair care and hair care products.
Moiture /oil etc: 1scalp message daily, it increses the blood flow to the scalp 2shampoos sold for dry scalp with moisturisers 3 do not wash your hair often, wash scalp once or twicw a week 4 do not use hair styling product like gel, mousse, or hair spray. I have small red painful bumps on my scalp along with dry scalp. Would it be bad if I picked it open? How do I home treat?
Foolish?: I am not sure what your red bumps are but if you pick these they could be come infected and could develop a cellulitis. I would see your doc and have him /her review what is ongoing. If the doc can treat it fine otherwise see a derm doc and have them tell you what it is and how treated appropriately. Foolish if you home treat
I have acne on my shoulder and a little seems to have begun appearing on the chest as well. P.S : also have a dry scalp and ergo dandruff.
Controlling dandruff: Dandruff (seborrhea) is common. Shampoos with zinc, salicylic acid, selenium, or coal tar are sold in many stores. Nizoral shampoo (contains anti-fungal) is also available. Doctors may also recommend cortisone or kenalog (triamcinolone) sprays. Prevent dryness (don't wash hair too often). A primary doctor or dermatologist can look for psoriasis, eczema, or fungal infections if unusual or worrisome scalp symptoms.
Genetics: Genetics are quintessential ingredient of our being, as the interaction of our genetic makeup with the environment that we live in determines many, if not all, of the processes and diseases. For example, psoriasis, an inflammatory geno-dermatosis, may cause dry and scaly scalp. Nevertheless, exclusion of other potential causes by a physician is warranted prior to this conclusion.See 1 more doctor answer
Treat for Dandruff: See Dermatologist. Dandruff is associated with malassezia fungus infection. Try over-the-counter dandruff shampoos, and look for one that contains zinc pyrithione, which can reduce the fungus; selenium sulfide, which can limit cell turnover and decrease the amount of fungus; salicylic acid, which works as a scrub to slough off dead skin; or ketoconazole, which works against a broad array of fungi.See 1 more doctor answer
