Symptomatic relief : Colds and coughstemp in 2 and 8 month olds should only be treated with saline nose drops, humidifier and tylenol (acetaminophen) if there is fever. Otc meds are neither safe nor helpful in this age group. However, if the 2 month old has any fever of 101 or has poor feeding , labored breathing or change in color, he should be seen. Is there any proper treatment for viral encephalitis with polycythemia ? Pt is 17 years old and over 6 month in icu waiting for good treatment

Missing information: You get more from the site when you provide better background information. Just listing "Viral" doesn't give much to work with. If it has lasted 6 mo and the patient is in the ICU I suspect it is Herpes encephalitis that has not responded to treatment and the prognosis is poor. Once the infection has lasted that long the damage is often permanent. ...Read more

Every winter I get a severe cough in spasms that lasts for 4 months.seems to be lasting longer each year.not asthma test done.Antibiotics no good ?

Possibilities...: A cough that lasts for 4 months is by definition a chronic cough. Possible causes include bronchospasm, GERD, sinus disease. Each of these should be aggressively treated until the cough is controlled. The likely diagnosis is bronchospasm which can be treated with bronchodilator and steroid inhalers. Antibiotics are not needed since an infection would be shorter duration. See a lung doctor. ...Read more

Call or go to ER: Don't ignore asthma, can be a deadly mistake. Call a doctor that has treated you in the past in order to get medication to bridge to the appointment. This may be possible depending on circumstances. Otherwise, go to urgent care or to the ED. Using expired medication may be life saving in certain circumstances, but no substitute for an evaluation by a physician and up to date planning. ...Read more
