Is it ok to pay a home daycare service under the table?

Is it ok to pay a home daycare service under the table?

No: Not totally sure what you mean by "under the table". They have to declare taxes based on monies they take in, so it is illegal for them to just accept payment and not report it. There are forms you need to fill out that are filed with social services for a registered daycare. Now if you're just hiring grandma next door to watch junior for a few hours, fine. Anything more, make it "above board". ...Read more

Should I shut down my home daycare center if there is a big flu season or outbreak?

Should I shut down my home daycare center if there is a big flu season or outbreak?

Flu & daycare: The best answer is yes. In many situations, this may not be practical, in which case just get vigorous about precautions--wiping down all surfaces, careful hand-washing (all staff), and teaching the kids to do careful handwashing. Exclude any children with high fever or constant cough (use a mask for them until they can be picked up by their parent). ...Read more

How do I know if a home-based daycare has been reported for any issues?

? Licensed?: If a daycare is licensed, this is done by the state you live in, and their business licensing division would the information about any complaints or violations. However, if this is just a mom taking a few kids in her home and is not licensed, there is not one good place to check. If my baby has a cold, how long should I keep him home from daycare?

If my baby has a cold, how long should I keep him home from daycare?

Tough answer: Most children in daycare are susceptible to frequent infections because they seem to pass viruses to each other through contact. It's probably best to keep them away if you think they have more serious symptoms like high fevers or a productive cough or they have a known bacterial infection. Once they have been treated by a pediatrician with antibiotic for a day or two, they should be ok. ...Read more

My baby has been diagnosed with pertussis. How long should I keep him home from daycare?

5 days: Once a baby has been diagnosed with pertussis, the normal treatment is Azithromycin (zithromax). One is considered contagious until one completes the 5-day course. After that your baby will not be contagious, even if he/she is still coughing. The cough can go on for awhile.
Hopefully this was not because of missing vaccinations, which are quite effective at preventing pertussis in children. ...Read more

I offer a variety of foods to my daughter but she's so picky and refuses to eat much at home. At daycare eats well. Multivitamin?

Multivitamin ok: Kids often eat one good meal a day and are picky at other meals; however, she may be eating well at daycare if they are catering to child favorites and offering limited veggies, fruits and lean meats. Review menus at daycare, and if that is the case, then continue to offer a varied diet at home, limit sweets, and eventually she will come around. Give vits with iron as iron deficiency more likely. ...Read more

My toddler is a picky easter hates meat and often changes what he likes and doesnt. At daycare he eats everything w/o issue, @ home it's a struggle y?

Be patient: Babies are often difficult little consumers when it comes to "doing what mommy wants." when it comes to foods & specifically the baby foods from jars, they may reject them based on texture, taste or just cause they "don't wanna". Why fight the battle. Other foods have many of the needed nutrients. Try feeding them at the dinner table while others eat or modify something you have for them. ...Read more

Should I wean my 6mo baby off her pacifier to avoid ear infections? She used pacifier at home but started getting infections once she started daycare.

Doubt it: Use or non-use of a pacifier is better determined by the emotional needs of the kid. I would equate the frequency of ear infections more to day care exposures than pacifier use. Baby is entering a phase where the ability to self soothe with stress/strangers/etc will be greater. ...Read more
