Two possibilities: Your eustachian tube can be too open. It normally stays closed and opens with pressure changes or swallowing. If it is open always, it can cause you to hear your own breath sounds. It should get better with lying down. Or you could have a superior semicircular canal dehiscence, which means a compartment of your inner ear has a hole in it. Need diagnosis: Sunken ear drums can only be identified by a physician. Usually that means a negative pressure in the middle ear. You can not personally touch the ear drum so what do you mean when you say "tender to touch".
