What are potential complications of statins hmg coa reducators inhibitors and what should be taught about these meds?

What are potential complications of statins hmg coa reducators inhibitors and what should be taught about these meds?

Muscle weakness: Statins (hmg coa reductase inhibitors) can have the side effect of muscle weakness. This could be the result of the depeletion of coenzyme q-10- which the statins inhibit. Taking coenzyme q-10 is highly recommendable to all patients on statin drugs to help avoid these side effects. ...Read more

Is cdp choline, magnesium, acetyl L-carnitine and lipoic acid MAO inhibitors?

NO: In general, MAO inhibitors refer to specific prescription antidepressant drugs & are highly regulated. Many foods & herbs have mild MAO inhibiting actions, such as carrots, chocolate, coffee, ginger, grape & onions, but these effects are not clinically significant & they don't need to be avoided if on a med that interacts with MAO inhibitors: http://www.botanical-online.com/english/vegetalmaois.htm ...Read more

Unlikely 2B related: Total and LDL cholesterol look ok, unless you have heart disease or multiple risk factors for heart disease, then LDL goal is <100. Inocmplete rbbb can be normal. Sometimes is just actually a "r s r-prime" pattern in certain electrocardiogram leads- many times a normal finding seen in healthy young military recruits. Incomplete rbbb can progress to a complete right bundle block. ...Read more

Pregnenolone and aromatase blocker uses?

Pregnenolone and aromatase blocker uses?

Specific & limited: Pregnenolone is an adrenal hormone made from cholesterol, and is the pre-cursor for sex-steroid hormones. It is said to 'improve mood, ' but no strong data support. To my knowledge there is no role for it's use as a supplement. Aromatase inhibitors are for treatment of some breast cancers; they're also used off-label for ovulation induction in women. No other appropriate uses to my knowledge. ...Read more

Dear doc, is cod liver oil safe to take with: 1. bp meds (beta blockers, calcium channel blockers) 2. proton pump inhibitors & 3. VitD3 supplements?

Dear doc, is cod liver oil safe to take with:
1. bp meds (beta blockers, calcium channel blockers)
2. proton pump inhibitors &
3. VitD3 supplements?

Yes: It's fine to take with the blood pressure medications and the proton pump inhibitor. I would probably stop the vitamin D supplement as cod liver oil has vitamin A and D as the main vitamin sources. Vitamin D is one you can get in trouble with because it is fat soluble and can accumulate in your organs if you take too much. ...Read more

Hi Clomid (clomiphene) didn't work for me for two cycles. Doc advises hmg injectables with next. Whats the sucess rate and typical regimen for taking them. Thanks?

What next?: Failure to conceive after two rounds of Clomid (clomiphene) is not necessarily a reason to move on to hmg. Were ultrasounds used during the Clomid (clomiphene) cycles? Do you meet the criteria for PC os (rotterdam criteria).? If you're given the reasonable dose that is to say hundred milligrams of clothing, and there was no follicle growth ultrasound, in my opinion it is reasonable to move on. Typically i will do a "cl-boosted" cycle with Clomid (clomiphene) is given day three today seven and then the hmg added. This is less expensive and less chance for a large number of eggs. ...Read more
