I have a throat infection can this be the cause of hives on my leg like the doctor said?

I have a throat infection can this be the cause of hives on my leg like the doctor said?

Hives: When a cause for hives can be found, it's most likely an infection. Viral upper respiratory infections cause about 40% of hives rashes. Fortunately, these hives outbreaks resolve as the infection resolves. A chronic bacterial infection, especially sinusitis, may be the culprit if a case of hives is lingering. Other causes include food , medication, certain disease states, and even stress. ...Read more

Began suffering from hives, and can a new watchband cause this, even though the rashes are not on the watch arm, but the legs and trunk?

Watchband reactions: Reactions to watchbands tend to be related to the presence of nickel in the band. Nickel is a metal that some people have a reaction to (irritant contact dermatitis) when there is prolonged contact. The reaction takes place at the site of contact, and is usually a red rash sometimes with cracked skin, rather than hives. ...Read more

I have white bumpy hives all over my thighs and legs and is very itchy what could have caused that to happen? Now my arms are starting to itch!

Sounds like hives: Hives are raised itchy bumps, splotches, or welts caused by histamine, a chemical released during an allergic reaction. Blocking histamine by taking oral anti-histamine can help prevent new hives from forming, and help current hives fade away. For people over age 2 yr, zyrtec or Claritin (loratadine) can be used. A doctor can look to help figure out what the reaction is to (viruses, meds, foods, pets, etc.). ...Read more

Got bad hives yesterday a.m on my legs/butt and a couple on arms. Am on predisone/ benadryl (diphenhydramine). Can cigarettes cause this? i just started smoking again.

Cigs & hives?: While it pains me to say this, it's unlikely that cigarette smoking is the source of your hives. It sounds like you have some conditions that would lead us to believe that you are prone to atopy/allergy. Best to ring your doc to determine what the cause of your hives is! I know this wasn't your q, but if you feel ready, you may also want to think about discussing smoking cessation. Be well :) ...Read more

Got a rash on legs knees elbows and buttocks from being at the beach today. Any ideas what caused this? Not itchy- but looked like hives.

Beach Rash: Several factors can cause you to be itchy after a trip to the beach. Bugs, like sand fleas and the mosquito, are not uncommon on some beaches. The sand itself can cause irritations, especially to sensitive skin or freshly shaved skin. Another cause could be sweat dermatitis, which is a rash caused when sweat is trapped in the skin. Itching and tiny red spots are a characteristic of this rash. ...Read more
