Hiv infection is caused by a retrovirus....This retrovirus binds to CD4 cells (for the most part). You may detect the virus by several different methods. An elisa test (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay). You may also detect it by doing a test referred to as a western blot (a gel protein electrophoresis). Thirdly by pcr (polymerase chain reaction) which ...Read more
1 negative home test, 1 positive home test, and a negative blood test after 66 days without sex (almost ten weeks) Pregnant or not pregnant?
Repeat testing: We usually recommend a repeat test in 6 months after exposure. If you are continuing to participate in high risk behaviors like having unprotected sex, IV drug use/sharing needles, exchanging sex for drugs, having multiple sex partners...) the risk of acquiring the HIV continues and retesting routinely (every 3 to 6 months could be considered. As well you should discuss prep and pep w/your doc. ...Read more
Not the best test: The better test 1 month after exposure is either a standard serology (elisa with confirmatory western blot if positive) or a 4th generation antibody/antigen test. Hiv PCR (viral load) will usually be positive, but false positives and negatives can occur, so it's an imperfect diagnostic test. Viral load is used diagnostically mainly in people with symptoms of acute infection. ...Read more
HIV: This test measures p24 antigen and HIV antibodies and if negative 4 mos after exposure has an inordinately high likelihood that you are negative and will remain so if you do not have further exposures. Some might advise being retested at 6 mos, but doubt this is necessary. Best wishes. ...Read more

Negative Mono,HepB&C,EBV after 8 months.. Negative HIV 4th generation test after 4,5,6,7,8 and negative for all STI's .. Am I safe now?
Overtested: You have been seriously overtested for HIV. The 4th gen test was nearly conclusive after 1 month and for sure at 6 weeks. There was no need for hepatitis or EBV testing after a single heterosexual exposure. Most other STI tests also are highly reliable, so you probably are "safe now". You do not need any more tests. ...Read more

No: It is recommended that you test also at 24weeks which would be 6months. Rarely does the test become positive after this but on a few occasions seroconversion had taken up to a year to occur. Hiv rna test result undetected after unprotected blowjob at day17. Test range 40 to 10mil. Is it conclusive?regular hiv test neg at 15 days. Hiv?
No risk: HIV is rarely transmitted by oral sex. If you were the receiver of the BJ, you can be sure you weren't infected: there are few if any proved cases of oral to genital HIV transmission. Most experts would have recommended against an RNA test in this situation, but the negative result is additional strong evidence you weren't infected. The "regular" test is only slightly reassuring, 4-6 wk minimum. ...Read more

Particularly diseases such as syphilis and HIV may not be positive at 2 weeks. You should be retested at 4 weeks.HIV ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

1 month after HIV exposure, I had a PCR DNA, it was negative. 8 months later I used Oraquick Home and it was negative. Are my results conclusive?
Yes: ELISA or enzyme linked immunoassay for detection of antibody against HIV has a window between 30 days and up to six but after initial HIV exposure. Western blot it's a confirmatory test if the initial ELISA test is positive. However, rapid qualitative immunoassay for antibody against HIV virus alone is not indicative of negative HIV test since The virus can be dormant for several months. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Yes she is: Hi. I read a few of your consults with other doctors on Health Tap. Many of them have advised that you followup with your own doctor to get additional testing. The world is not perfect. Occasionally labs produce errors. The first test may be a false positive. If the test is repeated more than once with negative results then assume you are negative for Syphilis. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

The second way detects proteins on the viral coat (western blot). This is a gel plate electrophoresis. Thirdly there is pcr (polymerase chain reaction). This detects and amplifies dna allowing a viral ...Read more
