I had a oraquick HIV 1/2 oral test done two days ago. The results were negative. How accurate are those results? Last exposure four years ago.

Pretty accurate: According to cdc site, "in the clinical studies by the manufacturer, the oraquick oral fluid test correctly identified 99.3% of people who were infected with HIV (sensitivity) and 99.8 % of people who were not infected with HIV (specificity)." of course, if you have symptoms of viral illness or characteristic opportunistic infections, get the standard blood test for confirmation or denial. ...Read more

Hiv (Definition)

Hiv infection is caused by a retrovirus....This retrovirus binds to CD4 cells (for the most part). You may detect the virus by several different methods. An elisa test (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay). You may also detect it by doing a test referred to as a western blot (a gel protein electrophoresis). Thirdly by pcr (polymerase chain reaction) which ...Read more

Would it be possible for HIV seroconversion to start now? It's been two years since exposure and my neck hurts on sides when i touch them or turn head

Unclear question: When were you last tested for hiv? It can take up to a year for antibody tests to turn positive. If you have any doubt, please see your doctor and get tested. Do not delay testing because you may be afraid. Early treatment is better for controlling the infection. ...Read more

I took a oraquick at home HIV test that you buy from drugstore 6 years after possible exposure. Is that too long after to take it? I did two of them to be extra sure, if that matters. Both negative.

HIV: It is never too long or too late to get tested if you had a possible exposure to HIV and want to know if you contracted the disease. It can however be too early for some people if they test too soon after an exposure to catch the virus before it becomes apparent on usual blood screening tests. ...Read more

HIV negative via Elisa and rna 20 years after any possible exposure but having symptoms of late stage HIV. Weight loss and fatigue and low testostero?

Not HIV: The tests for HIV are among the most accurate diagnostic tests ever developed, for any medical condition. Therefore, test results always overrule symptoms, exposure history, or anything else. And of course weight loss, fatigue, etc are common to innumerable medical conditions besides HIV/AIDS (and HIV doesn't cause low testoserone). Your test results prove HIV is not the cause of these problems. ...Read more

Can you please tell me the HIV symptoms at one year possible exposure ?

On prednisone for two weeks. Can I do a hiv viral load test and antibody test to rule out hiv for exposure 1 year back? Diagnosed with Bell's palsy.

Antibody test only: For an HIV exposure that long ago, an antibody test alone is sufficient; an RNA ("viral load") test will be much more expensive and wasted money. Taking prednisone will not have any effect on test reliability. ...Read more

Possible vasculitis: I would have an ANCA panel checked, especially with you saying you're having hematuria and proteinuria. There are a few conditions we refer to as pulmonary renal syndromes and they are all a type of vasculitis. Some of the names are Wegener's and Goodpasture's. ...Read more

What is the accuracy of the "non rapid" HIV a/b TESTING? I had a negative test 1 month ago and no possible exposure in 2 years. thanks!

Nearly conclusive: Almost certainly you weren't infected. The most commonly used HIV antibody tests ("3rd generation" tests) detect around 95% of infections by 4 weeks, but testing at 6-8 weeks is needed for a conclusive result. The newer "4th generation" (antigen-antibody) tests are conclusive any time 4 weeks or more after exposure. Check with the doctor's office or lab about which you had. ...Read more

Hi, I have done 3 HIV self tests by using the French certified auto test VIH. These were done months apart and about 3 years post exposure . All were ?

Unclear information: If the tests were done correctly and were negative at three years after exposure, you did not get HIV from that exposure. To be sure you may wish to get a HIV nucleic acid test.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.

What is the best hiv test to take if its been about fourteen years from exposure. Just found out about possible exposure. What test would be accurate?

ELISA/VIRAL LOAD: You should meet with your doctor to discuss concerns and be examined. Given the duration since exposure is 14yrs, the odds are less. But for peace of mind get a full blood work up/STD screen. HIV ELISA and HIV RNA viral load to be through. ...Read more

How accurate is HIV antibody testing after 3 years of exposure?

How accurate is HIV antibody testing after 3 years of exposure?

Very accurate: If performed properly, oraquick has shown consistently verifiable results. You can always check with your doctor for additional testing (such as antigen or PCR) if you're really concerned. But, all things being equal, the oraquick tests are as reliable as the antibody tests we use in the office. ...Read more

Can you tell me how I could not be infected with HIV after 10 years exposure?

Can you tell me how I could not be infected with HIV after 10 years exposure?

Not very catching: In the old days before there was any effective treatment, the large majority of wives of infected husbands, having regular unprotected sex, did not contract the virus. And you may carry one of the genetic mutations that makes you resistant. It's important though to eliminate what risks you have in your own life, even though you've been fortunate up to now. ...Read more

Is HIV test false after 1.5 years exposure of virus ?

Is HIV test false after 1.5 years exposure of virus ?

Trust it: A nucleic-acid based test simply won't be wrong at this date. An antibody test is so likely to be correct that nobody knows the rate of false negatives. One factor is that someone claiming to have seroconverted two years after a single event may not be presenting their history correctly. I'd be thankful for good health and get on with your life. ...Read more

Can someone 20-25 years old develope aids after 2 or 3 years or even months after exposure to hiv without treatment ?

Can someone 20-25 years old develope aids after 2 or 3 years or even months after exposure to hiv without treatment ?

Yes: There is no age at which you can't get AIDS. Once exposed it can take weeks to test HIV positive depending on which test is used and once HIV positive it takes time to develop full blown AIDS. How long depends in part on how healthy you and specifically your immune system is. Generally you don't develop AIDS over night when you are exposed. Hope this helps. Be safe. Treatment can prevent it. ...Read more
