Have shingles and have been getting rashes on my leg, pubic area, face, mouth why would my doc want a HIV test, I am offended by this I have shingles ?

Have shingles and have been getting rashes on my leg, pubic area, face, mouth why would my doc want a HIV test, I am offended by this I have shingles ?

You should be tested: Try not to be offended, your doc has your best interest in mind and is being complete in the work up. 'Shingles' usually appears in a dermatome (meaning that it only follows one single nerve distribution). If we see that it is in MORE than one distribution then we start to worry about other underlying problems because it is not the way that shingles usually presents. I would recommend the test. ...Read more

Scared for HIV exposure. Red skin under the head of my penis. No other symp.Possible exposure was 5 wks ago. Rash wouldn't just show up now, would it?

This is not HIV: HIV does not announce itself as a rash on your penis in any case. Chances are that this is a minor hygiene problem or perhaps mild allergy to clothing or detergent. If it stays around for 2 weeks or more, get it seen, or if it's painful, get evaluated now for possible herpes. ...Read more

Itchy skin rash all over body (except for face, neck, palms and soles) for 14 days. NO fever, NO flu-like symptons, NO lymph node. Can it be HIV ARS?

Itchy skin rash all over body (except for face, neck, palms and soles) for 14 days. NO fever, NO flu-like symptons, NO lymph node. Can it be HIV ARS?

Rash: It sounds more likely that it is an allergic reaction to something. The fact that it is not on the palms and soles of your feet makes other bad things less likely. Skin rashes are hard to diagnose and the diagnosis depends on where the rash is, the color, whether there are blotches, raised bumps and many other things. You can buy benadryl (diphenhydramine) in the pharmacy for itching and if it persists see DR. ...Read more

I was wondering are HIV rashes constant or do they come and go?

Depends on the rash: The rash associated with acute HIV (red flat rash over trunk ; sometimes face) occurs in 50% and is very transient. Kaposi sarcoma lesions tend to stick around a long time with or without treatment. Eosinophilic (allergic) dermatitis assoc w/hiv tends to stick around w/o therapy ; fungal infections do the same. There are some specific rashes to late stage HIV which also stick around a long time. ...Read more

Not HIV: The rash associated with HIV lasts at least several days, often 2+ weeks, and is continuous. Also, rash is never the only symptom of a new HIV infection. Hi Does hiv rashes appears after 5 months and they appear frequently or they appear one after one i am talking after 5 months of hiv doubts?

Listen buddy: At five months after a risky contact, your ordinary lab screen is almost certain to be positive, and a nucleus acid based text is certain to be positive. Stop doing this to yourself, man. If your labs are clear, give thanks for good health, love safely, and get on with your life.
