Hiv infection is caused by a retrovirus....This retrovirus binds to CD4 cells (for the most part). You may detect the virus by several different methods. An elisa test (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay). You may also detect it by doing a test referred to as a western blot (a gel protein electrophoresis). Thirdly by pcr (polymerase chain reaction) which ...Read more

Burning weakness: There are many other causes that can account for your symptoms starting with vit B12 deficiency that you suffer from that are much more likely to be at the root of your symptoms. However, if based on your sexual history there is any chance you might have gotten HIV it is highly recommended to have the test done and finding your HIV status. Hope it helps. ...Read more
SInce the time I had lip biopsy & endoscopy (last nov), have been having nerve burning/weakness in legs. Google says it can be HIV. No fever/rash. Sore throat sometimes. Before that I had master health check& everything was fine. Biopsy/endoscopy cause HIV?
Unusual: The rash associated with HIV is often flat and lacy, although a variety of rashes have been described. Lots of other infections cause rash as well (syphilis is one not to miss). And, usually people with acute HIV also have other symptoms like fatigue, sore throat, nausea, etc the cdc recommends that all adults be tested for hiv, so if it crosses your mind to think hiv, then go ahead and get tested. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Fever is very common 96% and rash is seen in about 70%. Most commonly rash involves whole body and may or may not itch, also may see mouth, genital and rectal ulcers as well ...Read more
Would single small canker sore that came 1wk after protected sex w/ 1 girl & 4wks after another be a sign of hiv? No fever or rash. Am I likely neg?
Probably negative: You don't say whether you have had canker sores previously, if so then the activity triggered a recurrence. If not, then the protection wasn't as effective as you were hoping. The chance of HIV transmission is small using protection and symptoms would be unlikely at this timeframe. The only true way to know would be to get an HIV test, and maybe one for your partner to rule out concerns. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Worried ab hiv, will be tested but curious. Protected sex w/ stripper 4wk ago. Would a sore throat & bump/pain on soft palate be hiv? No fever or rash.
I know HIV symptoms vary from person to person. But if there is fever+Flu+swollen Lymph node and if it is related to HIV then do rashes also come?
I had unprotected sex with a stranger (woman) about 4 weeks ago. Since then I've been worried about HIV. I have a mild sore throat but no fever/rashes?
Not related: Sore throat is not the usual presentation for HIV and symptoms from HIV do not usually occur this early. But there is no way to tell if you might have contracted HIV even if your partner had it. The only way to tell is to get tested. In the future, using protection will spare you a lot of worries. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Think I have HIV I cant even tell anyon have rash and hot body with no fever kidney hurt me but not anymore and other stuf tell me what is it?
Can a primary HIV rash occure as 3-4 pimples on the back, without fever or other symptoms? Thank you
Probably not: The rash with HIV tends to be red and flat or a bit raised. People have other flu like symptoms as well. Pimples are probably just pimples. If lots more emerge on only one side of the body in a strip this could be shingles. If the same cluster always comes back in the same place, this could be an unusual location for herpes simplex. ...Read more

I have beau lines on all of my fingers, persist thrush, lowgrade fever, lymphnodes, rash, hiv tested negative multiple times. Anybody help??
Resistant thrush: There are numerous cases of resistant thrush that is resistant to nystatin and/or fluconazole. I have seen this several times in practice and have had to use higher dose fluconazole in combination with terbinafine on several occasions for the affected patients. I would recommend evaluation by an immunologist. ...Read more
Generally speaking, when someone has the "acute hiv flu" how high is the fever in this situation about and how common is the "rash" on chest or palm?
Is it possible to get one or two acute HIV symptoms (ex. Slight headache and muscle soreness but no rash, fever, nausea)? PLEASE HELP?!
Which one is realible HIV symptoms (continious fever, lymphnodes, thrush, rash, dry mouth) vs 7 month antibody tests???
HIV test: The only reliable way to know if you have HIV is to be tested. Current (4th generation) tests will test not only for the antibody, but also for the viral antigen. The other symptoms you noted may be seen in HIV; however, they may be seen in other unrelated conditions as well. If you want to know, get tested. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Sex protected w/ girl 1wk &4wk ago. Small bump on roof only last a day. Dull ache in testicle.2 pink flat circle on butt. No itch/fever/rash. Hiv or no?
Protected sex. Status of the person unknown. If they had HIV would a sore throat that wasn't accompanied by a fever or rash likely be a symptom of hiv?
Possible: Everyone has different presentation of the prodrome (the initial phase of hiv), ranging from nothing to mild cold resembling symptoms to those resembling full blown flu or tonsillitis. Protected sex is better than unprotected but is not 100% guarantee against HIV acquisition. If the exposure is recent, the only way to be tested would be to check HIV viral load since antibody test may be negative. ...Read more
